Default ls vtec + nos

i am putting in a lsvtec into my 91 si
and i was wondering if the lsvtec can handle a 50 shot or more
just do drive down the track a few times
what kind of times would it run on street slicks
and it has stock ls pistons and stock b16 automatic head

yes, get an fpr and you will be fine. pistons get mad when there is not enough fuel.
and obviously make sure the setup isn't fudged.

i think you'd be fine, just make sure you got enough fuel!!, you might need a larger capacity fuel pump though. i think a ls/vtec with stock pistons makes close to what a gsr does for hp(someone correct me if i'm wrong) but you have to watch your revs cause the valve reliefs in the b18a pistons are not large enough. i think with slicks and if you had a s1 tranny you would be in the low 13sec region. i've got an ls/vtec that i'm building with b16 pistons/totally rebuilt, and i plan on running a 55 or 75 shot also and i had hoped for low 13's. the only thing is the fuel pump, remember its rated for your 106hp motor not your 2something one.

Hey Top_spec, what track are you going to? I want to watch it blow up...hahaha.j/k. I'm sure it could handle a 50 shot, but... the motor won't last very long in the first place due to the poor rod ratio. The ls block is not made for high revs at all, so be careful, it is not rev happy like the gsr, b16 or ITR motors.

An LS/VTEC with a stock rev limiter will last just as long as a B18A/B with a stock rev limiter. The r/s ratio's not that horrible anyway. It's 1.54, B18C1 is 1.58. The main difference is that the B18C1 has a block girdle.

Ya, I see your point, the b16 has a beautiful rod ratio. 1.74. But they just kick ***. Now the LS/VTEC, your right, the stock rev limiter is a good thing, however, if this guy is gonna add nitrous, than.... that will be harder on the rod ratio. As well, most mods that up the HP etc will make it harder on the rods. That is the downfall to the ls/vtec. And it will add extra stress to the rods, the more fuel and air that is jammed in the combustion chamber, the harder it will push down on those rods, the key is to not go too far. And I don't think anyone knows how far is too far, so... people who do this setup will take their chances. But, if you don't care about engine reliability, than great. The tricky question is, if the guy is gonna keep his revs around stock, than why the vtec? It will only be slightly useful for around 1500rpm, because the redline is around 6500rpm on the ls motors. So if vetc generally engages around 5000... well, you get the idea. Why not just get a set of cams for the ls? I'm sure the ls/vtec can handle revs above 7000rpm, but I wouldn't want to be throwing nitrous in at the same time, but again, thats just me. I dunno, here is a good article on the ls/vtec. Its negative, but, everything rings true.
