Default timing light doesnt work on my car!?

Ive tried hooking up 2 different timing lights on my car and they dont work right. Work fine on other cars tested. The light kinda flickers a little then stops for a little then flickers some more, not in a pattern or anything. What could be the cause of this? I have aftermarket plugs and wires...

You plug wire could be jacked up.

Are you providing power for it ok? Ground and Positive hooked up ok on ur car?

Has any body had this problem? Could it be the distributor, it is rather old.

Give us a more detailed look at what setup you have on your engine, which engine, mileage, blah blah blah. That way we can give you a more detailed answer.

Yeah ive tried all the plug wires and grounded it. I tried on a honda accord and a chevy malibu and it worked fine. I have a 92 honda prelude SI with a jdm h22a swapped. Engine was suppose to have 40-80k miles. I have ngk wires and plugs. No ignition upgrades. CAI and headers are only aftermarket upgrades.

I don't mean to insult your intelligences but you do know the #1 spark plug wire is on the other side of the engine right? Not the one next to the distributor.

Sounds like the inductive pickup can't get a signal thru the ngk wires. The timing light pickup may just not be sensitive enough.Try a stock wire on the number one cylinder to time it (even a used one out of the junk yard).
