timing problem, timing gun don't flash

timing problem, timing gun don't flash
I have a 95 Ex coupe, i was trying to check my timing, i hook the timing gun to power and ground, then the spark plug wire and started my car, There was no flash from the gun. I then check the wire for sparks and it had spark, I changed my spark plug and try agian, still the timing gun has no flash,
I then try the timing gun on my cousin car, and it work prefectly
can anyone help me with this problem, is my first cylinder dead or is there other problem, My car run fine though??????
