honda cant cut a blank for me...
So I locked my keys in my del sol's trunk the other day and had to run to honda to get a new key cut. Got a new key cut and it didnt fit, so im like okay.. look at it and it doesnt look ANYTHING like my old key. the blank type is correct but the tooth pattern is all wrong. so i go back to honda and tell them whats up and the parts guy cuts out a different blank, and it looks like the right tooth pattern but the key wont physically fit cause it doesnt have that groove down the center. they say they cant just cut the right tooth pattern on the first blank. do you guys have any ideas here? i double checked the vin number and i even took the lock cylinder out of my rear glove compartment and checked the 4 digit number and its correct according to honda.. do you think a key cutting place could use the one key as a pattern and cut it on a different kind of blank? any help would be greatly appreciated, cause ive looked at the options for breaking into the trunk and none of them sound too appealing

That makes absolutely no sense, With the Vin honda should be able to make the correct key for your car. Go back and kick the parts guy and tell him to do it right for you this time!
I got like four spares at Fred Meyer. wtf is your local dealership doing? Sounds like they hired the offspring of all the Darwin award recipients...

guys he is not using his key to get another one made. he is using his VIN#. your honda dealer sucks dude. i have mine cut keys all the time using the VIN# because i buy alot of hondas from abandoned vehicle auctions. (real cheap btw, $100-300 and sell them for up to $1500
What a bunch of BS. That guy is lazy!! Go either to another dealer or talk to the head person at that honda and tell them your situation. Hopefully you get things sorted out.

my local honda did that to me also. i had lost my only pair of keys with the master & couldnt get in my trunk for over a year because honda wouldnt make me one. eventually i went to the local locksmith & they made me a new master from my valet no problem.

VIN should work every time if not its the dealer, however your local locksmith should be able to make a "copy" of your key given that you have the other one. just had one cut for my g/f by vin and it worked like a charm
