Default Cheapest B series swap

I have a 92 cx hatch and the engine seriously feels like its going to die. I don’t want to fix it because the tranny grinds pretty bad ect and I hate to spend money on something I am going to replace. So my plans for a GSR swap are falling through and I am looking for the best possible solution to this situation. So if anyone has any suggestions on what Bseries I might be able to pick up cheap and hopefully one that will not be to much trouble to swap in.

Cliff notes - looking for a cheap Bseries swap

I searched and it seems like a B16 is my best bet…

LS's are cheaper than B16s

look for b18a1's and b18b1's

if your going to go b16 imo go h22 they cost sround the same but alot harder to swap in

a b18b1 would be a good swap for you as well and then theres always the potential for ls vtec

#1 Id say d-series plus turbo, cant go wrong, cheap parts
#2 Find an extra cheap d15 or something and drive that till you get money for your gsr

Most of the time car+no money=waiting

and it sucks

It depends on what type of power you are looking to get? If only around 300HP you could boost a D series, and it is cheap too. If more than that I would go ahead and try to get the GSR you want, because you can rebuild a d series VERY cheap. Probley no more than $175-275.

B18's are cheaper than B16... depends on if you just need a motor to drive.. or if you want one with power... if you want one with power... then you'll have a debate over B18's and B16's...

I am fine with just beating around with what I have now but I don’t know what’s wrong with it lol. All I can tell you is the engine bogs, smells like something is burning, and when driving up hill the car struggles in second. The tranny is gone but I can deal with that but not the bogging and the constant smell of burning something. I put some oil treatment in - it said something about stopping smoke and smell but that didn’t do much if anything. I put some fuel injection cleaner as well but I didn’t notice any improvements. The car doesn’t seem to have any leaks and I have never seen it smoke.

Thanks for the info - I would really like to deal with what I have an save up for a GSR swap if i can...

damnit, you guys beat me to it!

As everyone said, b18a1/b1 would be the cheapest swap. But a turbo D is money well spent.
