Emission test High levels
I took a emision test today and my levels were horrible at most areas.
My C0 and HC levels are way high. My car has a stock cat and everythings hooked up w/ no CEL's, Car seems like it runs ok. The only mods i have are CAI, Headers. A/F mixture doesn;t seem very good either. Can someone plz help me get these levels good.
CO- 9.84
C02- 9.07
HC- 398
02- .49
AFR- 11.12
test taken at 1500 rpms

Could be a number of things, for your high hc(Hydro carbon) its unburnet fuel. This means you should check your spark plugs/ wires for resistance/ cap/ rotor. Also i bet your car could use a new fuel filter/pcv valve and check your o2 sensors and check for vaccum leaks. If you have a vaccum leak your ecu will compinsate by injecting more fuel= higher hc readings. Hope that gives you somewhere to start.

haha I just took emissons on my 240 and it had HC too. Anyways they gave me the little book on some reasons it might be high.
A Misfire from the secondary system, like spark plugs and wires, rotor, ignition coil, or distributor cap.
Vacuum leak of malfunctioning vacuum device
Exhaust gas recirculation system malfunction or misadjustment.
Spark Timing
Aim pump not working
Cat not working
Worn valves, seals, guides, or piston rings
Carburetor or fuel injection system malfunctioning

ok, i checked vacuum lines, replaced pcv, and redid test.
My stats stayed almost exact at 1500rpms, but changed significantly at other rpms.

What year is your car 4th or 5th gen. Yes it could be your o2 sensor causing your car to run rich and fail your Hc reading. I dont know though because your a/f ratio at 2500 is damn close to sticheomertic (ideal ratio for most power output and least emissions) 14.7 to 1. How many miles are on your lude

Also im pretty sure the emissions test would'nt tell you your engine efficiency anyway, are you thinking of thermal efficiency? internal combustion are only about 20 to 30% thermal efficient. so i dont know where you make a connection between Afr and engine efficiency.
whoa, talk about getting off topic. I used a trace scope on my o2 sensor and it read 300mv straight across. Im not too familiar with wave forms but shouldnt a 02 signal go up and down a bit also something weird is going on with my igniton. I connected a timing light to check timing and it would skip and flicker. Tried it on other cars and it worked fine.
