clutch or synchronizer??? prelude sh 98
I was driving today and i shifted up to third it was fine but when i down shift to 2nd gear at 30-40mph i get that grinding noise and on 1st gear i cant even get it in what may be the cause of this. (do i need a new clutch, transmission, or what may be the cause of this headache please reply back thanks.)
The easiest, cheapest, and first thing you should check is the fluid level in your clutch mastercylinder. Top it off if its low, if its dirty and old you may need to flush it and bleed it.
If that doesnt work then you may have to investigate the clutch plate, pressure plate, synchros, etc. . . .

I didnt think prelude transmissions even had a synchromesh gear on first?

then what do you think is wrong? It started doing it after i got my ACT extream clutch with street Strip disc and my prolite flywheel.
I had the same problem you are having when i first bought my lude. I discovered that someone had replaced the clutch master cylinder but did not adjust the pushrod between the pedal and the mc. This was causing the clutch to drag, slip, and be hard to get into first gear. Is the "bite point" on your clutch pedal really high?
I would check your fluid first off, and if your clutch pedal seems to bite high, you could do a little trial and error with the master cylinder pushrod and see if that helps.

syncros are in the tranny. synchromesh is tranny fluid. No synchros in 1st. the tranny does lock you out of 1st while you are moving though. You should check your cmc for low fluid before jumping to conclusions on the tranny too. also, i don't recommend downshifting unless you are ready to punch it and accelerate. honda tranny's don't like downshifting unless you are rev matching too. just leave it in gear and hit the brakes.
