b18c1 vs ls/vtec need input
im looking to do a swap and have a good amount of money to do so. I would like to now the pros and cons of each the b18c1 and the ls/vtec. It will be going into a an ek so it will be the obd2 motors. My plan is to work on the motor little by little and i will be doing the work so labor costs arent an issue. will i gain anything if later on i decide to turbo it?
ls/vtec may turn out to be more expensive
the hp level will be about the the same depending on the circumstance and torque is usually higher on ls/vtec
i would go with just a gsr swap, save time and hassle, then boost it later
also, either one is good for boost, however when u put a vtec head on a ls, the reliablity is lower and turbo will further this
thats some of my knowledge

If you plan on going turbo, i would personally just stick with a straight up LS. Nice low compression, bombproof, people have been getting over 300whp on the stock engine.
It really depends on what you are looking for in the car, as in whether you want to do road racing, autox, drag, or have a street car. If you are doing a drag or a street car, i would consider heavily just doing a LS-T. you won't regret the power to cost ratio. If you want to do Autox, i would get the GSR swap then proceed to get a GT28 and some great tuning, and have a ridiculously flat torque curve and a big HP number.
I think you should decide what you want to do with the car then set a WHP number. From their we should be able to help you more.

Obviously, the B18C1 will be the most reliable. As for the LS/VTEC, which VTEC head will you be using?

Compression on a LS/VTEC can vary depending on the head being used a GSR head with yield a higher compression since the displacement in the head is smaller and the B16 heads have more displacement. If you want to do a LS/VTEC do your research and do it the right way. The only reason why people say there are not reliable is because nobody now what the hell they are doing. Another tip is if you get a GSR an ECU will be easier to find, on an LS/VTEC the ECU or choice will be chipped P28 so you wont be throwing codes for not having a knock sensor.

This is true, but you won't need all that WHP throughout the power range on the street. I would personally just to LS-Turbo. Its alot cheaper and alot more boost friendly. Search around here on honda-tech and see what you can find on both platforms.
