Air conditioning problem round2
(92 cx with jdm b16a2)
So i talked to the guy who i bought the hatch from and he said that he told the guys doing the swap to just bolt up the CX compressor to the b16 so the car is complete.
he said that you cant use the CX compressor with a b16 because the engine is different. i dont see why though, i know little to nothing about AC systems but doesnt the compressor just hook to the engine for mounting?
so if its the cx compressor, cx system, everything cx, all i have to do is a hook a belt to it and it'll work, right?
the systems connected, if i press the button the idle fluctuates a bit.

the block is a B series.. the compressor and mount is a D series.. both bolt paterns are different.
now, in order to bolt your D series compressor to the B series block, you'll need a 94 DOHC VTEC dol sol bracket. i belive its P54. the delsol was one of those origonal D series chassis with a B series in the Si package.
ive also heard rummors that a B20 AC bracket could work, but im not possitive.
or.. the long and expencive way, you could take the JDM B16 compressor, and make new AC lines, and use that.. but for the most part, if you got a Del sol DOHC VTEC ac braket you can bolt up your CX compressor and be doen with it.

The B20 bracket only works with 1.8L and 2.0L motors. The B16 block is shorter and the compressor will hit the PS pump because of the shorter deck height.

it already IS hooked up though... so i'm wondering if its really a CX compressor, or if the b16 swap came with a compressor?
either way... if its a b16 compressor and i hook a belt to it with the rest of the system being CX, will it work?
or if it is a cx compressor and i hook a belt to it it should work right?
the only thing missing in this is the belt, its already all bolted up

all 4 REQUIRED bolts from the compressor to the bracket won't bolt to the block.. chances are you only have 2.. (only 2 bolts will bolt up with a D series compressor to a B series bracket).. and all the B16 compressors have different hoses, so im sure you prolly dont' have all the bolts in the compressor to the bracket. can't be. if so, i'de liek to know what model # compressor, and what AC bracket.

This would make it a CX compressor, right? the bolt pattern doesnt line up...
so if i just hooked a belt to this it should work, right?

ive been longing to do this myself but still waiting on parts... hope this clears things up??

the CX compressor will only bolt to 2 bolts on the B16 bracket.. over time, i can bet moeny the other 2 bolts will stress crack over tiem, and you'll be dragging your AC compressor along the street.
do it right.. get a P54 AC bracket, and do it right.

correct. i had my compressor mounted on 2 bolts and after two months, one of the bolt gave up and snapped.

umm, just look at the bracket and see what the stamp is on it....... if its p54 then its your cx compressor if its not then thats the Si compressor the cx line will not work with the si compressor, if bolts are missing like said before you are going to lose that compressor in no time !
As long as everything is nice and tight you will not lose your compressor. The hose are more than enough to support the weight of the compressor. In my Civic the A/C was good for about 3 months with just two bolts and now I get to go back and do it right this time around. You can get the B16 Del Sol bracket OR if you're lazy like me and don't like to search and deal with people you don't know then Hasport makes the A/C mount for $165. I'm ordering mine soon!

listen, i have the same car and same engine. just got done with my ac install two days ago. You can use either the del sol (b16) bracket, which is in fact the p54, or you can use a 97-99 or 97-00 crv bracket. I am using a 97 crv bracket on my jdm 94 sir2 motor with a CX compressor, condensor, and all lines. Everything worked just fine. The reason you should use the 97 CRV bracket is because it's not as "rare" as the Del Sol b16s so honda sells it for less, something like 30-50 dollars less. I can't remember how much less, but it's definitely at least 30 dollars less. I was almost "robbed" because of my ignorance on the interchangeability (word?) of these brackets, so if someone trys to sell you a bracket for over 60 dollars, your best bet is to just buy it brand new from Honda. Goodluck with the install.
