Question 1 My check engine light is on, reads a code 14, and according to my trusty manual, is code for the Idle Air Control Valve, which resides on the back of my intake. I've tested it every way they say to and replaced the little black gasket, and pulled the "backup" fuse under the hood, and I can't get the light to go off, it's a $200 part and I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. It idles smooth as can be, the car runs great.
Question 2 Same car failed emmisions for hydrocarbons (25% over allowable limit) and carbon dioxide ( 3 times the allowable limits!). At the same time it had an exhaust leak in the resonator, do you think the desintegrating packing could have made it fail the test?
