Default Valve adjustment? Compression?

I am looking at all possibilities for my ticking noise coming from my swap. I can hear it comin from the head, but It sounds like it is coming from the botttem end also. My car has no pick up after 3500 rpm's. My friend said he seen white smoke when I first drove it. Which I think was just condensation sitting in the motor. And that was the only time smoke came out. My compression test was all over the first time I did it, and It was cold. Also, my car idles between 1000 and 2000 rpm's.

Since I am blowing no smoke, Shouldn't my compression be good?
And, Is this signs of needing a valve adjustment? This idea was brought to my attention once before. Also, my friends dad is into this kind of stuff and he thinks it is what I need. Sry for some of the repeat Q's guys. I am just so confused on this problem. I hear 10 different thngs from 10 different people. Thx in advance

it wouldn't hurt to get the valves adjusted and do a thorough compression and leak-down test if you're concern about the white smoke issue.
