Default possible clutch slippage?

well, today, i was on my way to school and i was at maybe 5 mph and i try to go in first, but im hitting the 1st gear lock, so i decide to go into second. i hit about 4500 rpms or so and im wondering why im not in gear. i try to go into 3rd and it does the same thing. i then go back into second and everything is fine. i do smell a lot of burning clutch. it has never even done this to me before. could it possibly be a freak accident or is my clutch basically gone? i have about 30 more minutes of class and im going to try the 3rd or 4th gear starts and such. also, i read before, something about putting it into 5th gear and letting go of the clutch pedal and u could tell. it didnt stall like how i would stall in first gear. it took like .5 seconds. a sputter than a stall..in first gear, the stall is instantaneous.

lets hope its just a freak accident, but ill try it later. i dont really have 500 dollars for a new pressure plate and clutch :\

Just do the 4th-5th gear test if you want to be sure.

Put it in 5th at 45mph or 4th at 35mph and floor it.

If the rpm's climb w/o the speedo climbing your done son.

you can also try putting it in fourth or fifth when the car isn't moving and just release the clutch and the car should stall instantly....
