Default trunk latch problems

I am having problems closing my trunk. When I attempt to close it, the trunk doesnt lock. I can get the trunk flush to the body (looks like its closed ) but cannot get it to 'stick' . Any links or recommendations on how to fix would be appreciated.

Thanks!

what year is ur R, if itz an 00 its a common problem. most people open the fluctuator and lube it up or some replace it with a new 01 fluctuator/actuator.

hrm, i've had that problem for 2 years now.. . i just jiggle it and it works though, so it's been on the low priority list of things to fix

if it doens't latch at all though... that would be bothersome.

hmm, I haven't heard of this one before. My hatch closes properly every time. If it's going to fail I wish it would've during the warranty period

check the latch to see if its in the original position because my latch gets stuck when i push it to the left to open it and the latch stays open so when i try closing it it doesnt close. just push the latch back to the original position to close. i dunno if thats the same problem you have but thats my experience with the trunk latch problem.

Yep I have the same problem. I move the switch to the left and then flip it to the right..also I have to slam it kind of hard. Its been like that since I bought it with 45,000 miles so I think its normal..

Yeah, like mentioned before, the latch handle itself could be sticky. Jiggle it back and forth to make sure it's all the way to the right.

I have to pull it to the right every time after I open the trunk.

Hmmm....I've got the opposite problem. Mine doesn't open properly. Closes fine, but when you use the slide button in the hatch (with door unlocked) it won't open. It used to work fine, then all of a sudden stopped. You can open it with key in the rear lock (held fully to the right) while using the rear slide lever, but that's the only way.

Is the fix the same?!?

Yep, sometimes my latch will stick in the "open" position so the hatch won't close. I'll do the jiggle of the latch, and it's fine.

I had those problems before but for the past year or two it has not been a problem. I sprayed the latch with WD40 and bingo.

Yes, wd-40 is your friend, re-apply as needed.

I have the same problem. Sometimes when I close my hatch the latch will hook but it wont actually close all the way. Even jiggling it and moving it back and forth doesn't work anymore. Im pretty sure it has something to do with the actuator. Ive found that when you open the hatch and you hold the lever to the left for a few seconds then release it works just fine.

Ive just trained myself to do it this way.

I have an 00, mine sometimes gets caught in the open position so I have to push it over and then close it kinda hard. But mine has never NOT closen before so I really don;t worry about it. Try lubing it some and if it still doesn't latch properly I would suggest gettign a 01 latch.

Bad actuator. I've replaced a few to correct this problem.
