Default just ran a compression test

I got 120 on all 4 cylinders on a stock d15b2. Though the head gaskets might have been blown or warped head, cause it is getting oil in cylinder 4. But all the numbers are the same on the compression test. Are those good numbers and what else would cause the oil to leak in? I'm thinking rings now.

Is the oil in the cylinder or above the plug? 120 seems low to me but it is consistent across the board.

oil is getting on the spark plug. And Not sure if the pressure could have been high but only crank the car for a second or 2. I'm thinking rings or valve guides

Put a cap full of oil in one of cylinders and retest. If the compression goes up it is the rings.

yeah 120 is low...my compression test read 1-160 2-120 3-150 4-160...i no my head gasket is done for and i also have that same problem with a little oil getting in the 4th cylinder but im hoping for that to go away with a new head gasket

i was under the impression that if the numbers are similar for 3 out of the 4 cylinders, then the problem is related to that cylinder only...while if the numbers are low for ALL 4 cylinders, then the problem is most likely the head gasket causing that drop.

somebody clarify please.

So the compression should be 160, even on a low compression motor like a d15b2?

well, it depends on the tester, like if the tube is longer it has more air to compress and doesn't get as high. for example, my engine right now is 115 across the board, and i know my rings are worn, but it runs fine. since the numbers are consistent, its not your headgasket.

your valve guides are probably causing the oil.

oh, and also, the dx and hf motors have slightly higher compression than the d16a6, 9.2 vs. 9.1. this is according to my manual.

i think the d16a6 had factory spec of 158 while the d15 is 180....and another thing when you do a compression test you have to crank it over at least 5 times not 1 or 2 secs. that should not be enough.

yeah 155-160 would be right for a d16z6 and when i did my test i cranked it over about 4 times but the thing that is weird is how on the 4th cylinder it read 160 and that is the cylinder that gets oil on the plug...confused

Damn i did a compression test on my DOHC ZC and it was 1-200, 2-200, 3-196, and 4-201 i was surprised when that popped up. But 120 seems really low to me i would do a rebuild on it.

If its consistent, thats a good sign. Also, it has been known that gauges from different manufacturers can read different numbers. Your B2 probably has a lot of miles on it so the somewhat low numbers are probably normal. I say just drive it till it blows. What do u have to lose? Hell i sold a guy a D15B1 for $50. It ran good too, lol.
