Compression test low?
Hi I did a compression test on my 97 gsr and I need help determining the problem.
I warm up my car first then open the throtle and my results are:
1. 240
2. 205
3. 180
4. 230
When I took out the spark plugs they look wet? it looks like oil put i'm not sure?
I put in some oil in cylinders 2 and 3...and they went up to 230...do you think I have bad rings? or head gasket?

#3 is waaaay off from the rest which means that cylinder is bad..compression cannot have a difference of more than 15 or 20 psi within any cylinder...that is if you did the compression test right and got an average of those numbers..always do at least 3 tests to verify each cylinder's compression numbers.
if you have oil on your spark plugs, that generally means you have a leak from the spark plug o-ring's under the valve cover..replace the o-rings and get some hondabond to seal it properly.
"I put in some oil in cylinders 2 and 3"
i'm not sure what you meant by that but i hope you used the oil filler hole.
i hope that helps.

I put a few drops of regular motor oil in the cylinders 2 and 3 because I heard if the pressure goes up, that means I have bad rings. but I also see oil leak on the left side of the head coming from the head gasket. also do you think the wet spark plugs could be coolant?
i never heard of putting motor oil into the cylinders as a test for bad rings but then again, i dont know everything.
oil leak from the left side [passenger side] of the head is generally the cam plug for VTEC-equipped motors..its a very common problem among GSR's..are u thinking of the valve cover gasket and not the headgasket?? if the headgasket is leaking, you have much much bigger problems on your hands than the cam plug or valve cover gasket.
as far as i know, coolant is nowhere near the spark plugs inside the engine.
usually, its oil that can get on the spark plugs.

That's true, because the extra oil will provide a temporary seal with the rings/cylinder walls. Did you see the numbers go up when you did this?
Alright, I guess your rings are bad in 2 and 3. Sucks man. Either rebuild it now (turbo or NA, either way, hone/bore it and throw in some forged pistons) or wait till it goes completely, then rebuild it.

Yeah when i did the oil test...it went up to 240...on 2 and 3..
I'm in the process of tearing my engine apart...how does the hone/boring with the forge pistons process work?..Do i need to bring it to the machine shop?...can I just replaced the rings?do I have to buy new pistons?....I was just thinking of just replacing the head gasket and rings...for my compression problem. you think I have to do more than that?.

Bad, do a cylinder leakdown test.
