Default Cleaning out engine cylinders

So I pulled my head off to install my ARPs and I havent had a chance to get the head back on yet so I stuffed some clean rags into the cylinders to keep crap out. I also used some carb cleaner to get rid of the carbon deposits on the pistons.

My question is, whats the best way to get this carbon crap out of the cylinders (some of it has flaked) and get any wee bits of lint of the cylinder walls that may be left by the rags?

And on a side note, there is some carbon on one piston that just doesnt want to come off... is there some kind of safe way to break it up/scrape it?

according to my haynes manual, you need to float that crap out by filling with water, then suck all the water out with a turkey baster and let dry.

filling the cylinders with water is not gonna hurt anything unless you're trying to compress and ignite the h2o

you should have one of these manuals if you're doing engine work like that.

I didn't see the part about filling up the cylinder with water. Which section is that? There is a part about cleaning the block after honing the cylinder with soapy water then dry and oil.

I'll post it when I get home, but it's reffering to head replacement, after you scrape the old gasket off, you'll need to float out all the little peices.

Put some ATF and let it sit and soak up the carbon. Then just wipe it off with a little elbow grease. This is how I cleaned my pistons on my old motor when I took the head off and I didnt get any carbon flakes. It just wiped off clean..........
