check out my white oil..

my guess is the headgasket.. which I hope Im right about since the new gasket is in the mail. any other suggestions?
also does anyone think its possible my engine is damaged? I'd guess my car has been blowing white smoke/running like ****/overheating for 3-4 months now. I'd hate to need another swap because I was lazy.

what does that mean
what does that mean
back in the day, we had a piece of **** oldsmobile. i thought the headgasket had blown, white **** all over the dipstick. turned out to be the thermostat.
so, if you are lazy, i'd replace one, then the other if the initial doesnt do the trick.

Why is seafoam being recommend for everything now adays, gotta rough idle, seafoam it, gotta leaking headgasket, hell seafoam it. People really need to know the bad side effects seafoam can cause. If you want to clean the inside of an engine use WATER, its the best solution.
Your not running at auto transmission are you ? How many times has the engine overheated ? If you overheater a lot you might have a warped block or head. Make sure when you replace the headgasket that the surface is leval.

Yes I understand what you were saying, but running seafoam inside of your engine
, it breaks down sludge, where does the sludge go ? In the oil pan, it also can cause gaskets to leak. I have also seen seafoam blow a headgasket.

Yea im a seafoam supporter, that stuff will be runnin thru my engine after I put it back together for sure.
90blackcrx: whats up man.. No its not an auto. Its overheated almost daily for the last month or so tho I never let the temp gauge reach into the red.

How bad did it over heat, and make sure you do know the side effects of seafoam. Many many people have had problems with it first hand, and they actually did test to see if it caused any damage and indeed it caused premature damage in the head area.
Water works just as good for cleaning the inside of and engine, plus its safe to use. A lot safer then seafoam

I dunno I've heard that seafoam is evil and will destroy your motor and I've heard its a saviour from god. All I know first hand are my own experiences and I've always had positive results (every time). I have a friend that used seafoam once and had a knocking motor soon after..
..gettin kinda off topic now

Seafoam is not ment to clear up oil either, its ment to break down sludge which later will fall into bad places.
drjondurst to stay on topic, how bad did your engine over heat ? And how long did you drive it while it was over heating, I would really be concerned about something warping.

and youre surprised your engine looks like this inside??? no guessing, your headgasket needed ot be replaced a long time ago.
you will need to check for warpage, if so youll need to mill the block and head both. maybe just the head. also, dont reuse the head studs. i got away with not doing exactly what i said and ended up blowing the head gasket again a year later. so you can get by with just a new head gasket if you just want it to last a bit longer.

yeah, looks like after my sister drove home from saint paul with a blown headgasket, she cracked the head and warped the deck, but the thing got her home. so, make sure you clean all the surfaces and use a precision straight edge to check for warpage. also, that much water will intefere with the oiling, so you may even want to check some bearing clearances and stuff. if anythings too worn, best bet would be a full rebuild or a different engine.
sorry if my post sounds bad, but i'm saying the worst case scenario, so if you don't have to do everything you'll be relieved and be like "well at least it wasn't this bad" and if it is that bad, you'll be like "oh well, i suspected it anyway."
kinda pessimistic, but works.

yeah thats more than likely a head gasket...
when i was doing my swap i hooked the hoses up in the dark and crossed the pcv and coolant line and ended up throwing coolant into my intake manifold. Thats what my valve cover and head looked like too. After six oil changes everything was good.

i blow my head gasket and my oil look that bad and did all the work to change the gasket to find out that i had some bad bearing i would guess becouse you drove it so long like that. that you would have had to done somthing to that motor best bet would be a full rebuild or a different engine. IMO sorry
