Default Prelude antena going bad?

The radio in my 96 Prelude is developing alott of static. It is not the speakers...They are all after market and pretty new. And I dont think it is the head unit(also new). I was told it could just be a bad ground on the anteena, can anyone tell me how to find the ground for the antena?

The antenna ground is where it attaches to your vehicle, the base it gets screwed to is the ground. You might have to buy a new antenna if the wire connected to your antenna is cracked or pinched. A signal amplifier might be able to correct your problem.

Or the connection to your deck might be loose.

You say that the grtound is where it screws into the base, so there isn't a ground wire? I tried one of those Signal Amplkifiers, but it only amplifies the staitc. I checked the connection at the headunit also it is tight. Can you tell me how to get to the mounting plate for the antena? I know you have to take out the trunk liner, but how does it come out? do you have to remove the jach from its holder?Any help would be appreciated.

Once the trunk liner is off you can inspect the cables to see if it is damaged.

The antenna I believe is screwed on in the center.

Or it could be on like a civic and screwed on the sides.

If you are unsure take it to an audio install shop and have them take a look at it.

Does the trunk liner just pop out? or is it held in by some screws or something?.....Also can anybody recommend a good manual for the 96 preludes?

I don't know about your trunk liner, but most are held in with plastic fasteners that just pull right off.

Re good manual for your car, try http://helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp for the factory service manual.
