Default (lil OT) Grounding Question(electrical)

Sorry this Q belongs in the Audio thread but it's kinda slo ova there and all the experts post here on the ITR thread.

I know most of you are aware that the ABS control box is located under the passenger side rear window.

Would it be okay if I share the ground for the stereo amp with this box?
Or am I running the risk of frying something?

Right now it's grounded to the bolt that holds down the rear seat.
I'm not feeling too good about it because it's right above the gas tank.
How safe if my current ground?

Thanks.

Ground = ground. It doesn't matter were on the chassis you put the ground. As long as the chassis is grounded....

Ditto - the entire body of your car is the "ground".

The best for car audio is to use the same ground for the headunit and amps, as to avoid ground looping i.e. "star" grounding

best ground you can use is your chassis. dont run a ground more than 16 inches if you can. Just screw straight down to the chassis, and make sure you scrape away excess paint. Its not the best to ground where something is grounded or even using a seatbolt.

Hey, where did you learn about ground loops? As I said before, many grounding wires in the engine bay also creates ground loops......

Yes but the whole principle of the Type One system is to have the motor and it's accessories ground to one common point which is shared by the battery. I do not think that this would create a ground loop.

I used to compete in IASCA (International Auto Sound Challenge Association) sound offs in the early 90s. That's where I learned about ground loops (Het spijt me, ik spreek geen Nederlands).

But you forgot the stock ground wires!!!! If you install the Type One, you'll have to remove the stock wires!!! Is that written in the manual?

Yes I think you will have to re-examine the position of the stock wires and determine if they are necessary. Removal would only be required if they create EM noise.

Now, where did you learn Dutch??
That is more shielding than grounding (and the shield is grounded of course).

What you think I'm some sort of de boerenpummel?

Actually my mother is Flemish. But all my latest Dutch is from the internet.

Some of my favorites:

drooggeiler
Someone who visits a red light district and just looks at the prostitutes to get excited after which he returns home to ********** or have sex with his own wife. A combination of "droog" (dry) and "geil" (horny).

remsporen, de
+ brown stains in underpants The literal meaning is "braking tracks" implying that someone did not quite succeed in controlling his bowels before a toilet could be reached.
+ Skid marks (poo poo in underwear or on toilet)

So, I am in no danger of 'frying up' anything by sharing the same ground with the ABS box? This location seems to be a common ground for 'many' other things as I see about 10+ black wires grounded in this particular location.

A ground is a ground is a ground. You can't fry anything with a ground wire!!!!!! But always hook up the ground wire before the power wire (just like when you jump start a battery - ground on first, ground off last).
