HELP!!! OBD ? for B18B motor
Ok experts, I have a few questions that I need answered if yall don't mind. I did try searching and found bits and pieces but nothing that seemed to actually answer my questions.
I just bought a B18B motor (OBD2) but I don't see the vin stickers that everyone talks about on the bottom of the block, I believe. I saw the thread that says B16's engines can be identified by the plugs.... OBD0= white plugs, OBD1= grey plugs/grey injector clips, and OBD2= 2 grey plugs/black injector clips; does this stand true for B18's as well?
Also, the block code under B18 is 1304663 and the sticker on the tranny reads Y21-2006095. Is there a way to tell the year the engine by these codes? I've read where some say that the series of an OBD starts with 1 and whatever number follows (this instance the 3) is equivalent to the year simply by counting up from the beginning year of the series (94+). If this is true, does that mean I have a 97 LS? I've also read that 1 series are US engines and 5 series are JDM. As you can see there is alot of conflicting info and I'm lost as to what is factual. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys/girls.

B18b's also came in 94-95 integra which were obd1. The vin your talking about isnt a sticker, its a green tab thats bolted to the block. If it was removed there would be two hole you'd notice. OBD1 Motors have two plugs for the dizzy w/ grey injector clips and Obd2 has one single grey plug with black injector clips. Picture would help out a lot.
Ok, thanks. So I looked on the block and didn't see the vin plate, but we haven't hoisted the engine yet (doing it this weekend hopefully) so if its on the bottom of the block like I've heard, then obviously I haven't seen it yet. As far as the injector clips go, they are black but the dizzy clips have been cut so no way of telling what color those are. Also the throttle body is a P75 (don't know if this matters). Any other key features to look for. I guess I won't really know until we go to hook it up with my ecu but any addition info is welcomed. Thanks again.

I think that's 1994 which was OBD-1.
The green metal tag stamped with the VIN wasn't required until (I think) 1996.
Injectors, sensors, & throttle body could have been swapped by previous owners, so they don't really prove anything.

Well in order for the engine to work with my OBD2 car (ecu) all that has to be changed on the OBD1 engine is the electronic components such as the injectors and ignition so even if it is swapped then thats for the better. The throttle body doesn't have stress marks on the bolts. As far as the miles go, everything is getting rebuilt so that won't really matter either but the engine looks rather new. I was told that the 1 serial code doesn't apply to JDM engines by a Honda dealer in Osaka, Japan. Yes, I called Japan not the business in Canada. Just trying to find out if anyone else has heard of this? I know a few that have said they bought JDM and the numbers didn't add up. If one of them peeps is you please fill me in on your experience.
Thanks
Thanks

That means a USDM engine would be 'B18B1' where JDM would be 'B18B' on the TOP LINE of that stamp. That business isn't about the first digit of the block serial #. Does that make sense?

Yeah I got that about the suffix on the stamp (B18B1 being USDM) and I think that I realized that this engine is in fact OBD1 and not the OBD2 I ordered (glad I didn't send them extra money like they asked for since they "screwed up"). JimBlake I think your right about the switching of the intake and injectors because I took a closer look today (engine is at brothers shop waiting to be put in this weekend) and there is only one plug on the distributor. There are suppose to be two if its an OBD2 (or at least my D engine has 2).
I ordered from Plan B in Jax, FL and have had problems since he accepted my money. He ships from Osaka and I didn't know this till it showed up on the shipping receipt. I called them and they are giving me the run around about the axles and shift linkage that WAS to be included and also no ECU. They suck. They say they will send it but I'm not gonna hold my breath. The plus side is that the engine looks clean so hopefully there will be no problems at start up.
I do have one question, since the OBD1 and 2 engines are the same other that the electrical compenets and since the OBD2 throttle body switched out, would the OBD2 dizzy swap out as well?
By the way thanks again.

im kinda suprised no one said to check the year of production on the headstamp. its gonna be in the first of like 3 little cirles with lines through them on the front of the head above the #3 cylinder.
