well...reason for the title is that when i ask people how long it takes....they usually go 5-6 hours if you never done it...so i alloted myself about 8 hours...now its the span of 3 days...me with no car is a pain in the *** for work and school. I see all these write ups for mini mes and the one that was done on a a6 was like super summerized compared to the other ones....they fail to mention all the other stuff i will encounter and what not...sorry i just felt misinformed....and now im so afraid she wont start back up again ever...

That is all part of the game... Just cause someone else's job only took 5-6 hours, never means your's is going to. Some people have power tools that speed the job up, friends to help, all the proper stuff to do it right there.

The biggest thing about doing this is research and having ALL the parts ahead of time. I did a d16z6 swap into a DX and converted to obd1.... 3 months of finding the parts I actually wanted and it was done.

Just keep working on it and you will get it done. Hell, I drove for 9 months without vtec even working on my car. I am just now getting around to replacing the dx tranny for and si tranny. You will be happy when you get it done. I just finished one on a friends car and it took 3 weeks to get it perfect. (we got a bad head, bent valves, timing issues, etc)

Good Luck

yea it took me 3 months to collect all my parts since i am doing a full conversion w/ obd 1. Since i never had vtec i didnt know there was another lil plug on the vtec solenoid..thought thts where oil goes into.....but yea i wanted to do everything right...after all is said and done ill be a full done right mini me.....

another thing that pissese me off was that the guy i got the head off of he never told me i was missing a plug on the solenoid nor did he tell me the tps was broken or ***** or some of the tubes are rusted out....now he claims the head is rebuilt...it looks brand new..everything is scratch free and on top of that shiny....but with all his other bad parts im afraid the head is also bad...

now after a mini me what gas do i use? i just read 93 because of the higher compression?

I always run 94 octane, and I run a stock z6 with no internal work, little nitrous, but mostly because it is better for the engine. I wouldn't go lower than 91 octane though. Just run premium and you will be fine.

Sounds like you are running into all the problems I ran into. Took me from the middle of december until the middle of January to get it running right, of course it was my first time working on a car at all. I really don't have any advice besides keep at it and it'll be worth it when you are done. Oh and I've been running 87 octane on my a6/y8 since january and I haven't had a single problem.

I know how you feel....that middle intake bolt is my arch nemesis.....it has taken me two weekends since I was retarded and when I was assembling my new head on of the rocker arms for the vtec was down and I was retarded and started to torque down the rocker assembly and cracked it....stupid me....but hey I got a new one and got everything hooked up and now I am throwing code 9 and I have been asking everyone for help with not much enlightening info....oh well....it is a good learning experience for us huh.....I am just happy I have a powerful airgun that took my crank pully right off.....and a lift that made things a lot easier...but yeah good luck to you....I know how you feel I am without my car right now too....

It really shouldn't take you a whole month, I did it slowly and ran into bent valves on the new head which added a lot of extra time. I used the a6 header and it fits like stock.

With a Y8 3layer headgasket, that's a 10.3:1 compression. I guess it is up to you to use it, but I wouldn't and I don't.

i just took one off at school...while doing a timing belt job.I just used a torch around the pulley bolt and zipped it off with an air gun.I realize that this is next too impossible for most people on here.I would def...look into getting some power tools as well as maybe a torch if your planning on doing future work.
