You want the car to accelerate through 1st and land nicely in 2nd. Banging off rev limiter is just a trick to help your vehicle speed catch up to your driven wheel speed. If your not spinning then you don't need to do it. You also need to control the throttle when your doing it or you will never get the tires to hook again.

you never mentioned, what 60' times you got
also what do you have for suspension? traction bar? rim/slick size? how much pressure were you running on the tires? what rpm were you launching the car at? etc..... good luck at boti in orlando, i won't be able to go. but i'm thinking of going to nhra at atco and englishtown

Just to add, there's not a set amount of time you should hold 1st. Are you new to driving this setup? With time you'll get used to it and you should be able to "feel" it a lot more. Just as Chris said, in the end all you're trying to do is get your cars actual ground speed caught up to the wheels. More info will help too!

I dropped .08 to .10 in my 60 ft. times just by putting limiter straps on my front suspension. In my 2250 lb. CRX I was getting 1.67-1.71 60 ft. times on the same tires you have.

i launched with the e brake as a staging brake, and road out 1st till i felt it caught up and was pulling 1.60-1.66 all weekend. on 22x8 tires. launched around 55-6k and shifted around 10
A bit off topic, but are there any 10,11sec. cars with stock suspension? and if so what kind of 60's would they get?
And what are the best shocks for drag racing?

i'm no SFWD guy but here are my thoughts:
make sure that you do a good burnout, although a smoke show is not necessary because Moroso seems to prep the track really well. if you hook well then its not necessary to bounce off the rev limiter. i can testify on that because in the past i had to bounce off the rev limit 1st thru 3rd but at moroso i didn't have to do it. we're not making the same power so might have more traction issues than me.
if you have a 2 step, use it. it will help keep your launch consistant and it will give you something to work with because if you're launching at a different rpm every time it will be hard to pin point a perfect launch. remember, the 2step will build boost and you'll be leaving with power so keep that in mind when trying to control the tire spin, if any.
i recently yielded 2, 1.7 60fts at Moroso.
crappy suspension (ebay coilovers, stock front struts, Koni rear struts)
24.5x8x13's on Lensos
7psi cold pressure
2step set at 4200rpm (builds 7lbs of boost at the line)
rev limit set to 9k although i didn't have to rev that high
1st gear, shifted at about 8,800rpm
btw, if you know of any good prices on Roll Cages let me know. i *might* consider getting one even though i don't want to spend the $$$.
Good Luck with your next trip to the track!

went to the track last night and tried the 2 step(6500)...spun way too much...i tried less rpm like 5500 and it woas getting consistent 1.75's and hit a 1.70 once 11.0 all night and hit my best of 10.925@134.5 mph.......car squats alot in the rear and i need to fix that and on top of that the car weighed in at 2400 w/o me and 2640 w/ me so i can definitely lose 250 lbs of weight from the car......
the et will drop at least .2 once i get the launch dialed in adn when i lose the extra weight...remember SFWD requires 2400 w/ driver so i know the potential is there......

i was running 8.5 psi in the slicks, stock shocks, h&r springs, stock axles, a lot of tire play without traction bars if u can see from the pic
