I havent gotten a chance to jack my car up to take a look at anything, but maybe you guys could give me a hint... everytime i make a sharp left or right turn i hear a rubbing/clicking sound. Anyone have an idea of what it might be?

something like changing the whole axle(which i take it also changes out the cv joint/boot) about how much does that cost usually via mechanic and is it something an novice/intermediate person can do?

 

mechanic will probably rape you up the ***....probably not a novice job (i know i wouldnt attempt, at least not without someone who has done it before), and it will probably require either air tools or a lift if you wanna make the job easier/possible...but dont quote me on that one

 

I would recommend getting someone who has done it before to help you if your going to try it yourself. If you go out and try and find a mechanic good luck, you'd be just as good if you threw $1000 off a cliff.

 

its really easy to do, i'd buy a manual and follow it

 

I had one joint go bad and I got the joint replaced for $95

 

Do a search! I replaced the axles on my 6th gen a few months ago using a detailed instruction taken from HT. I have it saved as a document file, but it's several MBs large. It has pictures of how to do each step.

Also, I would buy new axles, and not remanufactured axles. You can get them for about 130-250 a piece.

Yeah, if you have never done it before, it can't hurt to have someone with you who has done it before. Buy em' a beer.

As far as powertools, you don't need them. Get a breaker bar.

 

yea it's not a hard job at all. only problem you may run into is loosing the axle nut without the use of an impact gun, im sure it can be done though. the axle nut is a 32mm so you probably need to buy the socket too.

 

Yeah. there is no need for air tools for this job. Of course if you have access to them, by all means, use them, but if not, then get a breaker bar and a 5 ft pipe for leverage.

axle nut is 36mm

No, axle nut is 32mm.

Accord axle nut size is not the same as b and d

 

so i take it when i replace the axle im also replacing the cv joint and boot correct? im gonna do it this friday, wish me luck !

EDIT: Are you going to replace both axles?

 

I just have to ask the obvious...

Do you have oversized tires or rims? Otherwise its the axle

Im only gonna be replacing the passenger side axle
