Default cv joints - symptoms of failure?

has anyone had their cv joints fail on the rear axle? If so, what are the symptoms you have experienced?

never had any failures but from past experiences noises will be apparent mostly under turning one direction or another. If the joints are really bad, then they will make noise going straight. Do figure 8's in a parking lot at low speed and vary throttle position while turning. That'll tell you which side is the problem without pulling the halfshafts out and inspecting them.

clicks in the beginning if you catch it early, otherwise it'll be creaking rumbling like rolling a lumpy stone on a smooth surface. The clicks should vary with your speed.

I don't hear clicking when I'm driving at all. I do get some creeks when I drive off from a dead stop. They come from the left rear from what I can hear, but.. I'm unsure exactly, which is why I'm asking about symptoms. I do not have a rear swaybar on the car, which might allow the rear to behave properly, but also, provide some creeks that are not in stock form. I should be able to take a closer look later this week.

Have you noticed any grease drippage from the rear joints? I'd check to see if the boots are torn. If you don't hear any popping or clicking when turning, your CV joints are probably still ok.

i had some problems with my dr. side. As you guys know im bringing a salvage back to life. First just try tightening the spindle nut i think its to like 210 ft lbs. My problem was one of the cv bearings "poped" out of place and was sitting in the bottom of the housing. Personally I would take it off and inspect it. then buy the proper rebuild kit. (just to be safe.) -hope that helps-

This happened on my brother car. It was so bad that the car couldn't move. Sounded like a toy machine gun whenever he'd try to go. Had to tow it back home.
