Should I take this 1996 CX opportunity?
My co-worker is selling me his 1996 CX with 96K miles on it. How much do you guys think the car is worth? I test drove it and it seems fine. He had the timing belt replaced at 85K. The check engine light is on due to a malfunctioning O2 sensor. The SRS light came on about 3 months ago.
Let me know what guys think...

That appears to be a clean hatch, good body, somewhat low miles...etc. But do you really want that motor? I'd prefer something with a potentially fast stock motor. With that, if you want to carry any sort of speed I'm quite sure a swap would be your only option. But if you have plans for that anyway.. than pick it up
KBB says that car in "Fair" condition goes for $2,900... personally, I prolly wouldn't pay over $2,500 for the thing but it all depends on what it's worth to you. For me, I'd have to dump at least $5k into it to be happy with it (engine swap, suspension, brakes, wheels, misc. interior/exterior)... so spending a lot on a shell isn't very economical. For me.
Well this is the private party value I got from Kelly Blue Book. http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/k...HO;CG&&&
Damn I was to slow. Also to make it fast you wouldnt have to "swap"...turbocharge it! But then you will want to change the tranny for a Z6 or Y8 and same goes for the I/M, but if the sole purpose of this car is just a beater to get you back and forth to work then dont worry about all the stuff I just said.
The 1st price set is $2K. I'm thinking of trying to get it a little lower.
If I choose to get it, the car will be in it's current state for a while. My first priority to fix would probably be the bumper covers. I looked at OEM parts and saw they were priced okay. Does anyone know how much a shop would charge to color match and paint the bumpers?

Depends on the rest of the paint condition. I found that it was cheaper (and turns out it looks a lot better) to get the whole car Maaco painted ($450) rather than paying $500+ to get 3 body pieces attempted color matched.

Go for it man I got mine for $4k about a year ago. You can get that one for less since its a private party. Try paintscratch.com it never fails.
To get the bumper professionally painted, with warranty, starts at $250 and goes up depending on the color, trust me.
In the last six months, my dad had his front bumper painted (got hit by some blond), my brother had his rear bumper painted (another jerk wasn't looking where he was going), and my mom might need hers done too (has lot's of chips from road construction).
I personally had most of my car repainted (rear fenders, bumper, passenger side door… don’t ask).

I think so too. I will most likely go for it.

Entered agreement to purchase the car for $1800. Now, I have to find some bumper covers for the front and rear. Any tips where I can get used RED bumper covers so I don't have to worry about painting? I posted on the web and I received an email from S&J Used Auto Parts (Saratoga Springs, NY). Before I call them, I just want to know if this place actually exists and can be trusted.
Never mind. I did a quick search and found this post on the web.

I requested for a quote from this place as you suggested. I hope they have the bumper covers in red. I was planning on getting new unpainted ones but the cost to paint them seems high.
