Default car's temp gauge goes WAYYYY up at idle

Looked down at a McDonalds drive thru and the temp was pointed wayyy up, not in the red, but not far away. As soon as I started driving it went back down WHat could this be?

Side note: It was the first 60 degree day we;ve had in a while. Been 30;s and 40's. Also, Because of the weather I had my heat/cold turned to cold. Usually I just leave it on heat but seeing as today was nice...

So, please help!

Possibly a bad thermostat.

Hmm, covering...you mean like a dead cat up against the rad keeping it from getting air? No, path is clear.

Also (this all happened Fri afternoon and I work nights) Driving into work tonight the car was fine. No problems at all. Then again, its just a 20 minute drive in the expressway thats about it.

This car is really starting to become a hassle. A few days ago I thought the engine finally blew. Taking off (slowly) from a redlight and then the most horrendous noises you can image followed by severe power loss. I imediatly pulled over just assuming the engine blew. Cell phone batt died at that same moment. I didnt even pop the hood I just walked over to the gas station and called my friends to come get me. Went back to car to wait, popped the hood all looked normal (this was at 11:30PM) except when I pulled the #4 spark plug wire out I noticed the end of the spark plug tube was shattered. I just thought my theory was right, rod snapped, cylinder hit plug, plug popped out spark plug wire. Well, my friends showed up and thats when I noticed the DENT in MY HOOD!! Its an out-i dent, not a inny.
Long story short, the spark plug had come loose, allowing the compressed air to actually PUSH my spark plug wire out so hard it dented my hood. Turned out all 4 plugs were loose enough to see them physically move. So, they were tightened and new oem wires were installed. Purrs like a kitten until this crap today.

Add to all this, the input shaft bearing is dead on my tranny. Great news is I have a almost brand new d16y8 (00) ready to be installed I just need a tranny. I got the wiring harness and ecu and everything. Just need the money for the swap. Anybody in my area willing to help please do!!

Is this the same 6gcivic that use to post on TurboD16.com awhile ago? Anyway stuff you should check is if your fan is kicking on. I had this same problem and in the summer time I would get stuck in traffic with the A/C on and it would cause my car to heat up bad. I checked it by jumping the fan connector to the battery to make sure the fan would kick on...it did. So I replaced the thermoswitch and all was good.
