Clutch Install
I've posted the past 2 days on whether or not to replace the clutch on a 91 si. Just wanted to know what the easiest way to do it? do i drop the tranny and go from there or pull the whole motor. also I got all the stuff to do it, the only thing is i've never done 1 before. I got the haynes manual, but it's hard to tell if if i could do it, workin low budget so don't really want to pay for install. By the way its a 91 si with stock tranny, and its a centerforce dual friction clutch. Thanks for any help

After having recently done both in less than a week, I am going to have to say that dropping the tranny out is MUCH easier than lifting the engine. From the looks of it, I believe the car was designed so that the tranny could be dropped. I don't know how accessible the clutch is from the underside of the car however.

It takes more muscle, but less work in the longrun.

What, it's a D series???? Doing a tranny is so much easier for you than for us B series guys. Try fitting the damn B16 tranny in place. D16 tranny leaves so much room to work, just drop it and don't bother pulling the engine, seriously.

well no one has replied to this thread but i finished my clutch installation, i decided to just jack up my car and drop out the transmission which seemed relatively easy, it took about 4 days to finish the install because of lack of help and having a rusted car. Overall it went well
4 days, thats weak
The first time I did it it took me i think more than 2 weeks. No help at all cus everyone had left for school just b4 we got to put the tranny back up. In the process of gettin the tranny back in there, i had damaged the splines on the clutch disk, so i spent many days struggling wondering why the damn thing wasnt goin into place, till one day i decided to pull everything back off. Ended up spendin a few hours filing down the damages that i had made. Got it back up there, been fine ever since. I've done it a bunch of times since then on mine and friends cars. Alone usually takes me btwn 6-10 hours depending on which part wants to cause problems. All in all
for DIY.
On the LS clutch change, drop the front crossmember. Makes life a hell of a lot easier. Just did this on my friends DA and it was cake.

I did a clutch job. I droped the motor from the bottom. did it in a weekend with my brothers help. all we used was a craftsmen tool set. Torque wrence. and a Impact and air ratchet. I used a low profile race jack, and jack stands. its actualy VERY quite easy to drop the motor out of the bottom. Its VERY easy, It looks intimdating. but the hardest thing to do is remove the axles, everything after that is cake.
