Short shift rubbing the exhaust....torch the hangers?
I have a short shifter (not sure what brand, bought it with the car), and it's rubbing against the exhaust. The actualy rub point is at the lowest point of the short shifter. When the car's stationary, there's barely 1mm's worth of space between the top of that portion of the exhaust and the short shifter. But, once i'm moving, and above 3k, the exhaust makes contact with the shifter and rattles the hell out of it.
My question is, would it be possible to buy a torch from Home Depot to attempt bending the hangers downward for more clearance? Or should i just take it to an exhaust shop?

I had the same problem with my 93 teg. It annoyed the hell out of me. I had to bend the hanger by the rear axle because by just bending the hangers by the shifter that didn't to **** because I guess the one hanger by the rear axle was holding it up. So basically I had to mess around bending the hangers on the pipe to get everything to drop down a good inch lower. I didn't have any problems with it scraping the road or anything like that.
When I was fabing up my downpipe for my turbo I made sure the downpipe hung a lil bit lower and I put a bit of an angle on it so the shifter was no where near the exaust. But yea, that noise is annoying as hell and whenever I would shift the shifter was rubbing on the damn pipe. Just start bending **** til it fits! lol

I had a similar problem with my stock shifter and aftermarket exhaust in my integra.
the shifter was hitting the hanger bracket that was welded to the exhaust pipe,
I just took a cutting wheel and cut off the tip of the hanger bracket.
