shifter hitting exhaust
so after searching, i found many people have this problem but noone has said how they fixed it!
When the car is parked and engine is running i hear a loud rattle from front of car, which i think is shifter hitting the exhaust pipe.
and while driving when i get into higher RPM's there is a tight rattle that happens while accelerating and when i let off the gas. i'm hoping it's also just the shifter hitting the pipe.
the car is kinda low so i don't know if stretching the hangars would be good, so is there anything I can do or should i just go back to the stock shifter?

Re: shifter hitting exhaust
You're right, alot of people who have the sk2 short shifter have that problem, and unfortunately I don't think i've too many bright ideas for solutions.
Like you said, you could drop your hangers a bit. I herd a story where a guy actually chopped and welded the sk2 shifter. Cut between the ball joint and the shift linkage connetion--beyond me tho why you'd want to butcher such an expensive part.
Personally got some ebay short shifter. Half the price, no rubbing/hitting, still gets the job done, and been getting the job done for over 3 years now.

Re: shifter hitting exhaust
Dropping the hangers is the only thing you could try. I bent them the hangers a little to the oppisite side it was hitting and angled them down a tad. Worked for me i didnt have a skunk shifter though i think it wasa dc.

Re: shifter hitting exhaust
when my dust seal (dust seal B, according to honda) on the shifter ball tore, my shifter rattled. i replaced it along with the shifter ball seat and the shifter is much tighter and shifts better. no more rattles.
also, the bolt could be loose that holds the shifter to the shift linkage. mine came loose upon initial installation and i had rattling.
before you jump to conclusions on it hitting the exhaust, get under there and look... see if it is actually hitting the exhaust.

Re: shifter hitting exhaust
yeah the reason i think it is hitting the exhaust is when i'm driving it i can hear the rattle through the exhaust in the rear of the car. once i get my jackstands back i can actually get a peek and see if it's hitting the actual pipe or just the heat shield. it's a custom 2.5" exhaust

Re: shifter hitting exhaust
well damn, nevermind....got the car jacked up and looked underneath...heat shield is already gone and the shifter/linkage is nowhere near any piping unless the pipes move that much. guess it's time for muffler shop
