short shifter problem fix?

Default short shifter problem fix?

We put a no-name short shifter on my buddy's 99 coupe the other day and it rubs on the heat shield. I noticed that there is a rubber exhaust hanger about a foot back from where theshifter is rubbing. Now my question is, could you get one of those universal rubber hangers and use a different hole and drop the exhaust a little or would we have to drop it in the rear too? Thanks alot!

i had the same deal with mine, the bottom of the shifter was rubbing on my heat sheild, so i tried to re-install the shifter thinking it was put in wrong, but no it just did not fit right, so i ordered a new shifter (skunk2) because my no name broke on my with part of the shifter still in the ****, i aslo picked up some bushings from inlinefour.com ($18.oo shiped) and do not have the problem any more.

did you bend the heatshield yet? that works sometimes

i tired to bend mine, but i just dealt with it for a while untill the shifter broke, and just 3 day's ago i got a new exhaust any way's, stright off the down pipe, all the way back untill the E.S Tuning muffler so no i did not bend anything but i don't have a heat shield now for it to rub on.

wouldn't removing the heat shield cause the shifter to get warm. Thanks for the replies, any idea on lowering the exhaust?

i had the same problem but i know what the prob is,... you buy the short shifter and it says 88-00 civic correct? wrong, i believe its only up to 95 because the part in between the bushings and the ball is too long.. for ex. if you look at a neuspeed short shifter for a 96-00 civic its way short ill try to find a pic on here... and my short shifter from ebay is still laying around my garage
88-95
..i cant find the 96-00 one yet... still looking

The length between the ball and the bushings is what makes the throw short. If the piece between the ball and bushings was shorter then you would be back to a stock shifter. Bend your sheild.

take off your b-pipe, and bend the hanger near the shifter up towards the bottom of the car, what this will do is let the b-pipe sit just a bit lower, allowing enough clearance for the shifter. I done this to mine and my friends car.

You can just take the stock shifter, and cut it. That would be a much cheaper solution if all you wanted is a shorter throw. All you would have to do is get an aftermarket shiftknob since there would be no more threads for the OEM one.

....someone correct me if im wrong but doesnt the length from the ball to the **** make it a shorter shift (mac trucks for ex.) not ness. the part between the ball the the bushings

yes, the distance between ball and bearings is what makes the throw shorter, basically it just changes the pivot point. Also, short shifters are like 3/4-1" shorter than OEM.
