Default hot tanking head

My other z6 head came in today. It's pretty caked with oil as it seems. The guy I bought it from says that the motor spun a bearing so the head is still good. Just needs to be hot tanked. What do I need to do to get the head ready to be hot tanked?

here's some comparison pics for my other z6 head:

Strip the head down completely into parts. Get the valve seats recut and the valves seated to the head. Then get it cleaned.

No. I'm having my rocker arm assembly and cam caps hot tanked.

As in your valves are bent because they arent even seated to the head. Your valve guides are definitely fucked. You need to take that head to a machine shop.

actually the cam is still in that head so #2 and#3 valves should be out, but it does look like the #4 exhaust valve isnt seated all the way

why did you buy this head when your better off just fixing your old head and then you would have a fresh head with fresh seals

take it to your local machine shop, order a complete gasket kit for the head including head gasket and have them do a valvejob and clean up the head

they will install new valve seals guides etc and will be able to tel you all the problems like if you need a new valve(s)

i never understand why someone would buy another head if theres is easily fixable for cheap and they will have a nice fresh valve job and seals

Trust me the head is fucked. Serious machine shop work. You should have used your old head and saved yourself some money.

Im having my rocker arm assembly (shafts, arms, cam caps), throttle body and valve cover all hot tanked, then having the TB and valve cover bead blasted for about $50 bucks. Seems the going rate is about $35-40 per load. I only asked around at a few places but they can only fit so much "stuff" in there at once. Keep in mind its large enough to clean a full engine block, so you can probalby fit alot of odds and ends in there.

Hot tanking isn't that expensive. You will need new valve seals and still need to assemble the head though. You are looking at some cash then.

I can handle the assembly part.
