Default Code 22 only in third gear?!?

So I have a 94 hatch with LS/VTEC running on a custom chipped p28 and a VAFC. The car works fine except when I get above 7000 rpm at full throttle in third gear, it throws code 22...

I don't understand why this would happen in third but not first or second. The Vtec oil pressure sensor is wired fine and everything, and I would think that if there was something wrong with the sensor or wiring it would throw the code immediately or at least when you got to that rpm range in first? I can't figure it out, anyone have any ideas?

just browsing through my helms, try this:

*Road Test: Accelerate in 1st gear to an engine speed over 6000 rpm. Hold that engine speed for at least 2 sec. If the CEL does not come on, try this again two more times.

If it does NOT come on, it is intermittent failure, system is ok, check for loose wires or dirty/bad connections.

If it DOES come on, try checking these things:
Black wire
Black/blue wire
Vtec solenoid valve for clogging

or it says replace the vtec pressure switch.

I hope this helps a little.

I can't help ya...but I do have the EXACT same problem, only it's in a z6. My car started doing this after I installed the vafc. I know I installed it right, and their is no solenoid problems at all, the car was bone stock with 70k at the time. I know it's the vafc causing the cel...but I'm stumped on how to fix it...

you guys should check the connections of the wiring for vafc. i had the same problem but found that what i thought were good connections had bad contact. i ended up soldering the wires and the problem dissapeared.
