Default picked up a cx, coolant boiling, no smoke? no coolant in the oil.....HELP PLEEEASE

hey,
i picked up a 92 hatch and im trying to get it running so i can roll it around and get it deq'd.

heres my problem. car has 159k. new radiator. cold it runs fine. takes forever to warm up..fans dont cycle...well when i drive it for 5 minutes and it starts to run on 3 cylinders. doesnt overheat. and if i run it hard it goes back to all cylinders. well then it overheats and boils the coolant. doesnt smoke at all or burn oil. its acually a stong lil single cam, but theres no coolant in the valve cover or in the dipstick. and it blows hot air out the vents...ummm i searched archives and couldnt find anything that was like this.. o and i bled the air in the head which was a full of bubbles. still does it. um i could drive with a/c on and everything. just runs crappy when it gets hot. but doesnt overheat instantly..

im told the headgasket. im thinking maybe it could be leaking into the cylinder and making it go on 3 cylinders, but my last cx that i blew the headgasket it smoked hella and this doesnt.... i dont want to screw with a headgasket on this pos motor.

HELP ME PLEASE, need to fix so i can BOOST NOW!!!!

How do you know its running on 3 cylinders? Its not the headgasket because if it was it would heat up a lot quicker then "Forever" unless it was blown between two cylinders which would cause them both to show low readings on a comp test... which they don't. I want to know more about how you know its running on three cylinders... That concerns me. Have you checked the thermostat? When was the last time the water pump was replaced? Any noises that sound unusual at idle?

Do a cylinder leak down test to really test for a gasket leak,

i had a similar problem after doing my motor swap

after replacing alot of expensive stuff it turned out to be a bad radiator cap

if your compression is fine, and it dosnt over heat right away, i would suggest simply trying a new rad cap, the 1 i was usuing was brand new from auto-zone, wasnt a day old and it wasnt holding pressure, therefore after 30 minutes it would overheat instantly and boil fluids into the resevoir

its not gonna be headgasket, i bet its just the damm radiator cap, i scratched my head for a week with the same problem and it was just the rad cap

recommend you check the cooling system. you say it 'boils the coolant'? assuming you mean boiling into the resevoir...if that is happening then 90% means a blown headgasket, unless your radiator fan does not turn on then you need to fix that. air bubbles? hopefully you bled it all or else your t-stat wont open and youll overheat. just feel the lower radiator hose. if its as hot to the touch as the upper hose then your t-stat is opening. "running on 3 cyl?" you might have other probs but fix the cooling thing first. hope this helps...

if he dosnt have oil in the coolant or visa versa, or a shitload of smoke its not a head gasket, go change to a different radiator cap

its like $5 but do not get 1 from autozone, i had a brand new 1 from there and it didnt hold pressure

when i bought my CX, it did the EXACT SAME THING same thing after an hour of driving. i changed the t-stat, radiator, flushed the cooling system, bled it. the fan turned on like normal. nothing helped it. i guess it was either a bad H20 pump or headgasket. i never found out b/c i swapped it a few weeks later after the clutch exploded. sorry if this post isnt helpful
