i heard if u go over a curtain amount trying to fix your car they let u pass, anyone know what that amoutn is or does it depend what state, i live in washignton. im gonna get the prob fixed i need to pass so i can drive a little. plz help thanks

i dont know about washington but in ohio if you spend $500 or half the value of the car you pass. they give you an exempt because you put as much effort into the car that is reasonable.

 

For washington states it's...

"The actual cost of your vehicle's diagnosis and/or repair equal or exceed:
-$100 for a 1980 or older vehicle
-$150 for a 1981 or newer vehicle
-Coupons or discounts will not apply."

That is straight off the back of my emission paper. That of course has to be done at an approve emisson shop in washington according to the people at the fife station.
You can also ask them for a list of all the approve shop in washington.

I had trouble passing the idle portion last year cause my car wasn't tuned. I eventually passed though by dumping 15 bottles of "heet" and having only 1 gallon of 87 octane. Ran like garbage for a week after i passed emission.

 

haha damn move to Texas...cops don't care to much about emissions.

i have a bad cat on my 97 dx with a y8 head........so instead of buying a expensive oem cat i was going to buy a cheap high flow cat and bolt that on......But i haev to get emissions re-done soon and im not sure if this will fix my problem...Will i pass with a high flow cat and not a oem cat?? please help im in Maryland

Unplug injector #3. Emissions will fall big time. Car will run badly, but you only need it to run for a couple mins.
