Default D series rods for turbo build....what to buy?

Hey guys im in the process of building a bottom end for boost in my d16z6. I am wondering what brand other d seires guys use as far as their connecting rods. I am trying to do a relatively cheap build that still will do what i want it to do. I was just wondering if there are any other brands out there besides crower and eagle that sell good rods for the d's. My goal is 250 hp. with my motor so any input would help. Thanks

i suppose you could get pauters.... but thats overkill.

Just go with eagles they should be good for double your HP goal. And they are 300 new.

I See that your building a d16 del sol? Im doing the same thing this winter to my sol. Im using SRP pistons and eagle rods. What is your turbo setup?

I run Eagles, they're more than fine for 250 hp.

My friend has SCAT rods on his z6 and they hold have held up great...has held 16-19 psi from a garret T3/T4 no problem

Ok thats cool guys but my real problem is....i feel that its overkill to buy these eagle rods due to the fact that they can hold up to like 800 hp or whatever. My reasonable goal is 250 hp and was just wondering if there are any rods that are like in the middle between eagles that hold 800 hp and my stock z6 rods that hold like 200- to maybe 230. I want to run about 15 psi and want to to be pretty reliable. Is there any other brands that are mediocer in strength?

and by the way my set up is:
D16z6 head
port and polished/ 3 angle valve job
new valves
nippon racing MLS head gasket
nippon racing pistons
d16a6 block
crank balance
bored .20
decked
ARP head studs
King rod and main bearings
lightened stock flywheel down to about 14 pounds
ACT 6 puck unsprung race disc clutch with extreme pressure plate
AEM cam gear
underdrive pullies
obx intake manifold
hx ported exhaust manifold with custom 3 inch downpipe to 2.5 inch full exhaust
garrett t3 turbo with internal wastegate running off of boost controller
DSM BOV
DSM 450's
FMIC

I am pretty sure eagle says that they can hold that much... but people on here have found out that number is a lot less than that. There have been mixed feelings about it. For 250 whp that isn't overkill when you look at the prices of the other rods out there.

I think the reason they fail atleast most people say this, is that the botl size is too small. I am not 100 percent on this, but I think the newer ones are suppose to be bigger.

Eagles are 300 bucks. What the heck do you think you're going to find in between stock rods and eagles? Nothing.

Eagle are not overkill. For the setup you listed they are the perfect rod.

I dont know hw you can think that eagles are overkill if your running a XTSS presure plate and a unsprung 6 puck for 250hp. An ACT HDSS w/ street disk could hold that.

Eagles are proven, they are cheap. Your desicion is easy!

Yes, they are moving to the larger 3/8 rod bolts, up from the 5/16.

Spark Racing make nice rods for 200 either a lighweight forged N/A rod or a Turbo rod. I beam and h beam designs. Thats where my money is going when I get rods for the z6.

Hey DelSlo,

The Spark rods they are referring to are listed at the link below, but you won't find "D" series rods listed there. I am guessing a little here, but I think we were buying these rods from the same manufacturer as Spark was getting them from, and the manufacturer had a problem with the "D" series rods. Spark has pulled them and so have we. The manufacturer has promised to correct the issue in the next few months.

http://www.sparkracing.com/ind..._257

These rods are a great mid-point between stock rods and Eagles. We had a set of these checked by a local machine shop before adding them to our product line, and they gave a very favorable report. We asked them to rate the rods with stock = 1 and Eagle = 10, and they gave them a "7", which I felt was pretty good.

Once the problem ( a dimension was wrong on the big end) is corrected, we'll put these back in our store, and imagine that Spark will too.

In the mean time, we are offering Eagles up as our rods of choice.

Craig

just buy the Eagle and dont worry... they are cheap and reliable... why searching for between the 2 ?

Mine are in my engine for about 4 years and get thru 3 differents setup... 200whp, 250whp and 335whp in the same engine and they still going strong.

imo get the Eagle...
