Who is running a twin disk with a cable tranny?
Im starting a new drag project, this time with a CRX. To keep things simple Id like to stay with the cable trans. Recently though, Ive heard a few reports of people hating the cable set ups when running a twin disk type clutch.
I have in my posession a YS1 (USDM 92-93 LS) transmission and a Hydro B16 gear set which I plan to swap into the YS1 casing with the addition of a ATS 1st gear and a JDM Honda 4.785 FD.
Im just looking to get some feedback from those who are using cable transmissions. Are there really any downsides?
This will be for a NA drag set up.
Thanks

we ran a cable (ys1) trans last year on the Pro4 car. The only prob that we had was the cases and 4 gear breaking under very high loads. If you are running NA you probably will not have any problems with it. look into getting the phantom grip trans girdle it will help with the loads on the bearings and keep the gears in mesh at all times.

The usual problem is you dont get enough throw with the cable to make a twin disc work properly. I run the RPS twin carbon with a cable trans and it works just fine. There first model had issues with the release, but we worked together on it and now their new design works awesome! You can even use the stock t.o. bearing. If you do have problems though, you just have to cut a lil notch on the arm comming out of the trans. It will change the ration and make the pedal more heavy, but will give you more throw and once again you wont have problems...

Used the ClutchMasters in our racecar with YS1 cable and 25" slicks ... although only allmotor, it took a lot of abuse and lasted two seasons of sheer abuse. No problems shifting either, even at 11K+ RPMs in some instances.
I do send the clutch back to CM for inspection after each season, but usually all is well despite the abuse we put on it.

I ran an exedy twin disk with my YS1 transmission with no problems at all. The season before I ran a clutchmasters twin disk the season before with a j1 trans (small shaft cable) no issues either. I personally feel that the exedy clutch is a better made piece, no modifications needed at all, and utilizes a stock Throwout bearing.
