Let's Talk Headers
As many of you might or might not know the only engine modification done to my car is an Intake. I am now interested in putting a little more power under the hood since my track driving skils are getting better. Those of you with experience with headers on the F22 let me know your experiences good and bad. Should I go with just a header or a complete exhaust system? Let me know.
Misa can and prolly will say this better BUT ahem,
I would redo your whole exhaust system if you wanna get the most power out of it me personally i like kamikaze headers, but just bolting on a bigger better header with a ity bity reducer at the end of it wont help. at the end of the factory headers there is the o2 sensor houseing just a small piece of pipe the goes from the collecter end of the header to your cat. And then if youve got a 94-95 youve just got catback pipe to your muffler if you got 96-97 ARG then youve got another 02 sensor and then your cat back piping. For the simplest route i would get some kami's and free flow cat and a real mandrel bent catback system. If you feel like being crafty then i would get rid of the stock o2 sensor houseing and the reducaer on the end of the header.
AHEM misa has pics somewhere...
I dont know what intake your using but i ehh experimented a while back and you will get the best all around power from a 3inch one piece intake that extends into the fenderwell. That is if your using the stock TB if your using the h22/23 tb then you might try a 3.5 i have yet had a chance to do that yet tho. But im thinking the intake should always have a larger diameter than the TB.

ahem, misa does not have a digi-cam, anyway, your best bet is to have 4-1 custom long-tube headers into a 4-1 merge collector 2.5" of size then do custom 2.5" on back piping as straight as possable, i was going to do the longtube and merge collector but funds was an issue, if funds are an issue just do the kamikaze and 2.5" on back
I'd say the power gains offered by an aftermarket header are pretty negligible, especially for the EXs which have a pretty well designed 4-2-1 stock unit. I've put nice stainless units on both my F and H motors, but really, they just mostly look nice. There is a measurable power gain, but you probably won't even feel it under your foot.
A header does offer a more significant power gain for lower-models with cheap exhaust manifolds designed.
It certainly won't hurt your car, but frankly at this point, I think you'd be disappointed with your results.

Dave, nice to hear from you again, that was one of the reponses I was looking for
Misa- build your exhauast from the header back, removing the A pipe, mid pipe and cat or from the mid pipe back?

Yeah man I've been out for a week. Trying to remove a stripped screw from my rear rotor with Bob Villa's Screw-Out, I got a piece of metal lodged right in the center of my cornea. I had a [cute] doctor sticking a needle in my eye every day last week. Don't worry, everything's back to normal. It's amazing how fast the eye heals.

Dave,
Gald to hear everything turned out ok
Your vision wasn't compromised was it?
Misa- what total investment did you make from header to muffler? what did you do with the o2 sensor?

header 200-
piping is about 7 bucks a foot you will need more than i used
you will need a muffler,
a pre resonator, bends flanges etc...
you buy an o2 bung and they tap and drill a hole and weld the bung
i can take you to the guy that did my exhaust he charged me 200 for all the cutting welding etc...
you will probabl;y be more since a whole system is involved
oh you will need a small 2.5" cat and flex pipe

Morgan, leave it alone... You have to make a decission either to use the F motor to its full potental like misa, or swap for the H22.....
H22 would be my opinion.. a full exhaust system will give you 7hp at max, cost about 1000$ all said and done.. or you can save up another grand and a half and get the h22a with 50 more HP, and still have a quiet, reliable, daily driver sleeper....
JMO though

yes man, you must figure out if you want to swap, if youll swap ill be more than happy to take care of your f22 =D
I have a dc header $320, random technology cat $120, and pacesetter exhaust $180, And you know I was pullin on you on the straights
and you also know the install for all these parts is easy.

Yeah, well like I said the non-EX models have a horrible stock exhaust manifold, so you're getting decent gains. Your modifications and weight reduction certainly give your 2-door 4G a better power-to-weight ratio than Morgan's 4-door 5G.
Your 1/8 mile times are really good for an Accord with so little modification too.
