Default CEL-->23, Knock sensor. Need HELP

Hey guys, I finally found the diagnostic connector and got my CEL code, its for Knock sensor. The back ground..its a 4th Gen, p13, JDM h22 vtec, been running perfect, 240+ compression, I baby the car, Oil is full, a bit over 1/4 tank of gas. park the car, wake up the next morning and start driving to work like I normally would, and the CEL comes on, and car is getting really difficult to accelerate due to being in limp mode, I then parked it again, and got the CEL light code.

Can someone give me some feedback on this? I plan on resetting the ECU and driving it again and seeing if it pops back up if so I would like to know how to procede.

Thanks, Josh

I have run an h23 and an h22 with broken knock sensors. the computer never went into limp mode for me the light just came on and It never hurt performance from what I could tell.

Its 100-200 bucks. I bought mine about a year ago.

Check your timing... Maybe you're too far advanced if your seeing power loss and a knock code... are you running shitty gas in your car?

nope I run premium and I have been through more than 3/4 of a tank of it...I'm going to reset the ecu and then see what happends. I will get back to you guys, thanks for the replies

+edit+
About the timing, it has been running perfect up until now, so unless something went whacky with it, I doubt thats an issue.

Reset the code. If it pops back on you are going to need to replace that first. Its a little difficult to get to. underneath the intake manifold right on the very top of the block in the center. It doesnt matter if you baby the car and what not. Somtimes old sensors just go, thats all there is to it. Other times its something a bit more serious.

And if your car is throwing the CEL for a knock sensor, your car is in limp mode. No matter what you think, or say, or have heard, it will be in limp mode. It will sound like you are hitting vtec and **** but car wont move, much like driving a DX hatchcrap or something of that nature. Good luck and a for good measure.

May as well check your timing and everything. Get a timing light and fiddle with the dizzy to get it where it needs to be. Us 5th genners dont have that ability.

People, you do not get code 23 if your engine experiences knock

Code 23 only means one of two things, either the sensor is disconnected, or the sensor is damaged.

is it safe to drive? I would need to do a 30 mile trip to get it to the closest dealership.

I drove thousands of miles on an h23 with a broken knock senor and then an h22 broken knock sensor. so I would say yes it is safe to drive to the dealeship. It might not have the perfect power level but it should be fine.

I reset the ecu, drove down the road, CEL came back on again, I then proceded to drive it to the dealership where she lies until tomorrow.

On a better note, the Service manager was a hot young chick who dug the prelude

I live in an apartment complex so working on my car is hard to do unless its at night, I also don't mind paying because they warranty what they do, I do alot myself, but somethings I just take to them, I make enough money to take care of the vehicle properly and taking off work to fix it is pointless. Otherwise I would dig in and go at it. thanks for yall's help I will let you know how it turns out.

also the sensor was 166 bucks at the dealership, and they charged me 1/2 labor to put it in, drove it home, been working great.

if anyone reads this, does the ECU clock/radio fuse reset actually work? it is so much easier because my alarm doesn't reenable itself.

if ur worried about your alarm u could just unplug the connectors from the back of the ecu...ive never tried doing the ecu/radio fuse, i dont have an alarm so i just take off the battery cable, and as for taking it to honda cuz they know what they are doing....dont believe the hype, many dont, and the knock sensor is pretty easy, if u just jack up the front of the car and put it on stands, taking out the sensor is almost like the oil filter but smaller, its not something that would require much skill or knowledge

As I indicated previously in the post my apartment complex would kick me out, and my particular dealership gets raves from all the local people and scene we hang out with because most of them work there with that in mind I wouldn't take it just anywhere or any dealership, but I have had no problems with this one
