Default Need help with exhaust setup.

I want to know if my setup may improve response and power.

My 200k mile turbo swap's block cracked and destroyed my turbo in my 924s and now I'm running my stock motor once again. I really want to all motor it and have ordered a stroker kit from Lindsey Racing, I also have titanium exhaust and intake valves, spring and retainers. I can't have any of this installed until mid summer because of transportation reasons. My stock exhaust has leaks in 2 places and I'm planning on changing it. This is what I have in mind....

MSDS Headers with 3 inch collector
3 inch piping from Kteller
Hi flow cat from Kteller
Apexi N1 115mm Muffler from Modacar

I have like small things on this motor like a short ram, and a homemade air passage guide to the filter, DME chip and a fuel pressure regulator.

this is what I am stock-

8 valve SOCH I4, all alluminum
175HP@7000
155ftlb@5900
10.2:1

here are the headers from MSDS...

help me out!

3" exhaust pipe is too big for an all motor 4 cyl car.

edit: LOL maybe not!

"1175HP@7000"

heh

come on folks, I need to know a couple things

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Matt5745767 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">ya stick with 2.25 or 2.5 inch piping and a magnaflow muffler </TD></TR></TABLE>

why do you recommend using smaller piping? does it flow better? and is it louder than using larger piping? I hate loud exhaust..

and also, how does it sound with large piping from the headers, I'm confused because I'm assuming it sounds lighter since there is more space for exhaust gas to go through but then again I can be wrong, would this setup be more efficient or would piping from the cat on?

Revised setup plans:

MSDS headers with 3 inch collector
3 to 2.5 pipe to cat
2.5 hi flow
2.5 down to N1

and should I have it all welded together or use flanges, I do realize it might be easier to use test pipes and such with flanges but I hear there is more flow w/o?

use a 3" highflow cat and have it taper. any muffler shop can do that for you. it will flow much better then the 2.5" one.

thanks man, I could use more help though, I read on another thread that larger pipes have better flow but less velocity, and that smaller piping (about 2.25 or 2.5) has less flow but better velocity, will it effect me in any way if i use larger piping and then all of a sedden smaller, like will it end up throwing it back in or something?

its like pinching the end og a hose, you get more pressure and the water shoots out further and harder. As long as it doesnt taper a buttload it shouldnt create too much backpressure. remember you want SOME backpressure for that reason stated above. too much though, and it becomes a restriction. on a NA 4 cyl enigne 2.5" is about as big as you want to get. between 2.25 and 2.5 is fine.

so It would be better to use 2.5'' piping with a 3'' highflow cat?

hold on, so thats where I realize I have a prob because the headers are 3'' at the end, so would it still be safe to use a short (probably 1 foot) 3" pipe to the cat because I know that Kteller has cats that are 2.5 to 3 and im guessing either or, correct me if I am wrong (which I might be) and then run 2.5 down..?

sounds like the 3" to 2.5" highflow cat from kteller is perfect for you.
