So i ended up with tape residue on the roof of my car...whats the best way to get it off? Heat gun? Goo Gone? or leave it to a detailer?

I don't want to damage my paint

Try a silicone based adhesive remover?... I used to be a detailer for Toyota. Should work like a charm.

 

as far as i know goo gone doesn't ruin paint. i've used it a few times before with no harm. anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, though.

 

I've used goo-gone on all kinds of things, the only thing i wouldnt' use it on again was my rims, it seemed to have taken the wax that was on there before clear off. Lotion also works for taking off residue, although it doesn't seem the best for paint either.

 

i heard goo-gone works great. my suggestion is after you get the residue off, spray with water.

 

I used goo gone on my car before, worked great. It helps to heat up the residue up a bit and then work the goo gone into it

 

goo gone will take off clear coat quick, bring it to a detailer.... pay him to use goo gone. lol

goo gone seems to be the best bet so far...thanks, i'm going to try it this week

 

I HAVE ALWAYS HAD GGOD RESULTS WITH WD40.AND IT IS USUALLY ALREADY AROUND THE HOUSE.

I've used goo gone to remove tape residue before and it did not ruin my paint . If your really worried about it just wash your car afterwards. Goo gone works wonders

 

Anyone ever tried a claybar? Seems like the most paint friendly soluiton if it works.

 

Claybar is more for contaminants that get inside of the paint and on top of the surface of it, I wouldn't really recommend it as a first to get off tape residue, maybe afterwards, but not before. If you don't know how to use claybar it can do more harm than good.

 

did u try a brand new razor blade? if your careful itll work then if there is any residue use an alcohol prep pad from a first aid kit.

 

all about the goof off. it works really well and wont scratch your paint. it will look hazy when you get done, wash area with car wash soap and water, and voila, you're done.

 

goo gone is great, I've never had it hurt paint, and it lists stickers on cars as one of it's uses. Just don't use it on your household carpet, tends to make the carpet and the foam seperate.

too risky, it's not like 1 big piece of tape, it's like 200 little pieces.
