Sandable primer holds moisture, so yes it will rust.

You need a epoxy primer

X2, epoxy primer is used as a sealer. Thats the best way to prevent the rust. Also, dont prime it and let it sit a couple weeks before you paint. You should paint over the primer within 48 hours.

Use real primer( like the one u spray) not Autozone primer.....
