Default need help with my welder

Ok heres the deal. I was playing around and i thought i might try using some aluminum mig wire in my welder. So i put the correct tip on my whip(.030) instead of my steel tip which was (.025). Well everytime i would feed the wire through the whip by holding the trigger it would always bind up in the feeder. i tried loosening the tension and all that i just dont know why it always binds up. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Joel

It's reccomended to use a spool gun for aluminum. The wire is so soft that the friction within your lead is more than the wire can withstand...so it just tangles up.

Try keeping the lead straight, and maybe some wire lubricant. You MUST get the stuff that's specifically for mig wire, from the weld supply. WD40 or other lubricants will not only make your weld impossible, but it will get in your lead and you'll probably end up having to replace it because it will contaminate any wire you put in it. If the proper lubricant and keeping the lead straight won't work, you are just out of luck and will have to get a spool gun.
