Question about synthetic oil
um if you switched to synthetic oil for about a couple of months and change it back to regular oil will it mess up the the engine or wear it down? or is this just a myth because i wanted to try out sytheic to feel teh difference anyone?
It's a myth and is no different than using regular gas in your car and switching to super and then going back. Do a search on here about this and you'll find a huge amount of information on this topic.
Yah, It's a myth...I was one of those "Jiffy Lube Guys" lol...till I realized the job sucked...but yah it's a myth. As long as the conventional oil meets the same viscosity ratings that your motor requires then it is fine. Pretty much all conventional oils excede the viscosity ratings for our Honda motors. Conventional oils are way better now then just a couple of years ago. It's pretty pathetic about how much you learn about motor oil when you become a grease monkey.

For conventional oil, I'd go with Castrol GTX. Has some of the best properties for a conventional oil. If I can find the link to the comparison test, I'll post it.

Oils 'thickness' is dependent on it's viscosity and weight of the oil. 10W-30 is a 10W-30 whether it is synthetic or conventional.

I've used both at the same time in my old beater (88 Accord), and the engine still works fine after all these years.
Basically I would put whatever I could find, but then again I really didn't care if anything happend.
I use Shell Helix 5W-50 full synthetic for both my EK and del Sol

German Castrol 0w-30 (Says "Made in Germany" on back of bottle) is a better oil than the Mobil 1, but the Mobil 1 is still a great oil. Synthetic > Dino oil.

It also has a red lable. The stuff with the yellow lable is made in US, and is the same group III oil base stock as all the rest of the synthetic oils you'll find at the parts stores. I run the german castrol all the time.

just be careful about using thicker oil in new motors. newer motors are built with such tighter clearances that they need thin oil (such as 5w-20) to keep them running smoothly and well lubricated. increasing oil thickness can cause premature engine wear and decrease fuel economy.
Mobil 1 synthetic is a waste of money. I use Gastrol GTX High mileage and I dont have to take out a bank loan for it and its good oil. Synthetic **** is overrated, including the DEXCOOL coolant. Just my opinion though, no offense intended.
