Default valve cover bolts broke inside head¿¿ Removable¿

Hey guys whatsup. My name is Pat. I have a 1993 honda civic and I was putting my motor back together after rebuilding it with some new internals and i was putting the valve cover back on and i overtighened 2 bolts and they snapped inside the head. I was wondering if there was any way of removing them without making to much of a mess drilling them out. Let me know. Thanks

your pretty much screwed, yes you could use easy outs but the drill bit would have to be pretty small and the easy outs for that size are pretty exspensive (trust me i just bought a set from snap-on) the best to get those small of a bolt out is to cut a notch in the top of them and try to turn it out with a screw driver. or try using a small punch an turning it out by tapping and turning it if that makes sense.

also what head do you have? does the bolts go thru the bearing cap? and if so are they threaded thru it, or can you remove the other bolts and have what's left of the screw sticking out? then you could just turn it with vise grips.

use some kind of tapping mechanism. or cut a line in it and take a flathead screwdriver and screw it out.

I have the sohc vtec head for the d16z6. There isnt much i can do as of turning it out with a screwdriver cuz the bolt broke down a little from the edge of where it threads in. I am going to pick up a set of easy outs and go from there to see if i can get them out. Thanks guys for all your help and if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

I broke an exhaust manifold bolt. Here's the procedure I wrote. It will be the same for a vc bolt. Just cover the area with a towel so no metal shavings get into the head. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=567450

Wow, awesome info. I'm going to have to get a few of those to add to my ez-out set.
