Tranny Rebuild Parts Help...
Update 1-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw they have these:
Tranny Parts - New pricing effective 1/31/05
3/4/5 carbon coated synchro's $140 shipped
1st thru 5th synchro set (1-piece 2nd gear) $215 shipped
1st thru 5th sunchro set (3-piece 2nd gear) $265 shipped
Bearing/Seal rebuild kit $225 shipped
What do I need? And is that all I need parts wise. I know we'll need a lot of tools for the job, but I have to make sure I have all the parts.
Origional post-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The engine/tranny is a b18c R with about 40K miles, but its grinding already so who cares about miles. Well, my 5th gear grinds while shifting into it so I'm guessing its a syncro: (links below if you care)
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1141166
So now I'm trying to buy all the parts I need to replace the 5th gear syncro and I guess 3rd as well since that one is supposed to fail a lot.
My question is, what parts do I need exactly?
Where can I buy the parts for a good price? part numbers help.
Basicly, a friend who is very good with tranny work will be doing the work and I'll be helping as I have changed clutches before, but never internal tranny work. So I have to buy all the replacement parts that will be needed.
Therefore if there are packages that I can buy that includes the replacement parts, that helps as well.

Alright, I guess I have a place now, so the question remains, what am I buying?
I just call and say:
I need a 3rd gear syncro and a 5th gear syncro? And thats all the parts I need?

You should also get the 5th-reverse synchro sleeve & hub since the 1-5 synchro carbon synchro kits probably don't come with the synchro sleeves and hubs for each gear pair.
You need the bearing on top of the mainshaft as well as the mainshaft clutch housing bearing and seal.
You also might want a new countershaft lock nut and the two bearings on the top of the countershaft.
MT CLUTCH HOUSING - #16 (bearing), #21 (seal)

MT COUNTERSHAFT - #11 (locknut), #13 (mainshaft end ball bearing), #14 (mainshaft end bearing) you might not need these if you don't need to replace the bearings on the countershaft.

MT MAINSHAFT - #9 (3rd-4th synchro pack), #10 (5th-rev synchro pack), #17 (mainshaft end bearing)

Thanks a lot IN VTEC
So my complete list is:
3/4/5 carbon coated synchro's $140 shipped (I don't need 1&2nd & 1or2-piece 2nd gear?)
MT CLUTCH HOUSING - #16, #21
MT COUNTERSHAFT - #11, #13, #14
MT MAINSHAFT - #9, #10, #17

Get the 1st-2nd carbon synchro's if you want.
Also, on the MT MAINSHAFT - #9, #10 synchro packs, you should just buy the synchro hubs and sleeves from Gearspeed if you're already going to buy the carbon synchros from them. The synchro hubs/sleeves and synchronizers themselves are a part of the synchro pack sold by Honda, so you can't buy any of the pieces individually. If you bought #9 and #10 from Honda and also the 3-4-5 carbon synchros from Gearspeed, you will have just wasted your money on a complete set of 3-4-5 brass synchros. The whole point of that schpeel....get the carbon synchros and synchro sleeves & hubs from Gearspeed, not Honda.
However, there's a good chance you'll only need to replace the 5th-reverse synchro sleeve and hub, so if you want to save a little money, just get the 5th-reverse synchro sleeve and hub.

I think I got ya, so basicly, your saying with my current list, I'm actually buying the 5th gear syncro twice. But other than that, I'll have one of all the other parts I need correct?
Your helping me out a lot, cause internal tranny is like very new to me

If you bought #9 and #10, you'd have extra brass synchros for 3rd-4th and 5th-reverse.
#9 is 3rd-4th synchro pack
#10 is 5th-rev synchro pack
#9 is 3rd-4th synchro pack
#10 is 5th-rev synchro pack
So basicly, i just need to buy the honda parts alone and don't need that kit from the 3/4/5 carbon coated synchro's kit. So just these:
MT CLUTCH HOUSING - #16, #21
MT COUNTERSHAFT - #11, #13, #14
MT MAINSHAFT - #9, #10, #17
BTW, if my understanding is still fuzzy, you can just IM me back so that everyone else dosn't have to struggle with my misunderstanding as well
