Default H23A-EG shifter problem...

I have a 1992 Civic CX with a JDM H23A swapped into it. My friend did the swap for me, and he has the same engine in the same car (so it's not the way the cables are routed).

My shifter is inaccurate and VERY notchy. Also, it won't center itself (if it's in neutral and I push it to the left, it will stay where ever it is instead of bouncing back to the center). Having this problem also makes me scared to downshift or REALLY get on it because of the inaccuracy. Does anyone have any ideas?
