Valve cover gasket leaking
Hey There,
Im losing a lot of oil but its not leaking from the PAN and its not burned through the exhaust...
I noticed my PCV valve was worned out (I shaked it and I hear no bearings) so it might be the cause. But while I was checking the valve, I noticed my valve cover gasket looked to be leaking as there was some oil, could it be the cause as well?
I mean there was just a little bit oil... not that much. Of course I will change the gasket anyway but Im just wondering if the gasket problem is more the core of my oil burning problem than the PCV valve is?
Thanks

It could be either one or both. But the thing is, these are pretty cheap & easy to fix. I'd fix BOTH, then go from there. Get sparkplug tube seals too, sometimes they're not automatically included in a VC gasket.

#7, one for each spark plug hole. Sometimes you get the whole set, sometimes you get ONLY the separate gasket pieces. Ask the question when you order the gasket so you know what you're buying...
hey thanks a lot for the details! That's gonna help me out replacing it...
yeah I just called the shop where I ordered my gasket and it does come with the sparkplug tube seals.
All I got left is to do the job! It's my first car, my first "job" in my engine, exept some minor thingies so wish me luck!

Fukushuu, make sure when reinstalling the valve cover not to overtighten the nuts and bolts on the cover. They only get tightend to 9 ft-lbs and it is very common for people to overtorque them and then they have to buy a new stud. Also, you might want to check the cam bore plug for oil leaks because they are very common for leaking and they are right by the valve cover gasket, in front of the distributor. Its a black plastic plug at the end of the camshaft. Check that also. Pm me with any other ?'s
Thanks a thousand times! Ill do all that tonight and PM you if needed! I can't wait to have a non oil-leaking/burning car
I'll post heads up on my issue when Im done in case it could help some people.
** JimBlake, Sorry I thought it was a howto site with that kind of image
Still thanks for the graphic it's going to help a lot.

What engine you got? VTEC? If so, check out this thread for a couple other places where it MIGHT be leaking.
