Default JDM B18C Type R swapped into a 1999 civic si...

I just recently got the eninge swapped into my car. I have heard some bad things and some good things. The engine is a 98 model. There are people telling me that the block is crap. But i do not know if this is true or not. I just got into imports cause its nice to see a 4 cyl. beat a V8, so i really dont know much about all these engines. The guys at Sonicboom Motorsports talked me into buying this engine. The Si is not going to be an everyday driver. I am wanting to know maybe i should stay NA or go turbo on it. I wanna run at least in the low 12's or high 11 range. Is this possible without rebuilding the bottom end?? Or should i go ahead and rebuild the whole thing?? I have a $8000 budget hear. And i heard that these imports are costly to build up. Anyone with suggestions??? You can reply or Email me at Kirt71832003@yahoo.com if you have something forsale for my engine. Thanks

your going to end up taking the motor out anyways so i would sell that type r and get some nice cash for it. take that money and build up a cheaper b18 or b16. your going to need to build the bottom end to run 11's.

Around 300 whp. All depends on weight of car, if you have slicks, driver skill.

Stock B blocks can hold close to 400 hp with tuning. 11's will be no problem with the stock motor just do it right.

type r motr is good to turbo, but ur comp will be high even with a 3mm head gasket. compared to a b18c1 the head is better, the tranny, and manifold and throttle body, so its fine. id slap a headgasket on it, and boost conservatively w/ a good tuner.

i agree with red bull i have been building them for along time and the r is a good motor the 97 block would have been better due to the crank but i would say keep your set up buy a gsr block sleave it bore it to 84 or 85mm and slap all your **** onto it then put a 99 b16a2 head on it with full valve train and cams and resell it as a type r long block should get your money back that you paid for the gsr block best choice in my mind if you have 8k to spend do it right and build a gsr block like i said and buy a wide band o2 and aem ems and a better lsd with a nice clutch and you will be set up perfect nice injecters nice turbo kit good fast and will run perfect all day everyday

Thanks for all the advice. Around how much HP can i get if i just put a block guard and thicker head gasket, and how much PSI will it be able to hold with extensive tuning?? Someone told me to do that but i think i will go ahead and get the GSR block and build it. Anyone have any suggestions on what brand of parts i should get for the block??
