Questions About B18c Swap in 2000 civic si
So i recently got a 2000 civic si and i want to buy a b18c type r swap for it and i had a few questions. Ive been reading up on the b18c's for awhile now and everyone says not to boost it, I understand its a high compression engine already but is there lower compression pistons i could get to make it boostable or anything else like that? Money isnt really a problem, and I only wanna run like 8psi on it tops. A list of things you guys would get or, anything to add helps, thanks.

Re: Questions About B18c Swap in 2000 civic si
Well the B18C1 from the GSR is commonly used for turbo applications. The B18C5 from the Type R is the engine that many do not recommend turbocharging. However, there are still many people out there with Type Rs that have been turbocharged.
I think that you could probably use the extra thousand dollars you save by going with a GSR engine for all your turbo stuff. Since the Turbo is going to be giving you all the power you can use, you probably don't need to pay the extra cost for the Type R engine.
As far as your question about the lower compression pistons, the answer is yes. There are lower compression pistons available for almost all of the Honda B series engines.

Leave the pistons alone, boost it and get a good tune
However if money is no issue, the pistons and rods would be a start. Not needed for only 8psi

Here is a list of some of the Wiseco pistons available for Honda engines.

Other companies also sell a similar variety of pistons for Honda B series engines.

If you are going to pay extra to get a Type R engine then why not leave it naturally aspirated?

Doesn't the type r have upgraded Camshaft, Exhaust Valve Spring, Spark plug, Engine Stiffener, Crankshaft, Connecting Rod, Inlet Valves, Intake Manifold, Throttle Body, Inlet Valve Springs versus the normal gsr engine? So out of the list of those pistons what would you recommend?

Re: Questions About B18c Swap in 2000 civic si
The type r is built to be a high compression naturally aspirated engine. Honda added compression over the GSR version to make the engine more powerful. The cams and other internals were designed with this in mind. Why not go with a GSR rather than unengineer the type r which Honda did such an amazing job creating? I'm not trying to be a dick, just throwing out my opinion.

This thread has a ton of stuff about building an LS or B20 vtec engine. https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-motor-naturally-aspirated-44/how-build-%22reliable%22-lsvtec-b20vtec-1676914/
