damn how big of a compressor do i need to buy? i had just bought this one thinking it was enough, so it was a waste of money?
oh yea i had the car in 5th gear and had my little brother smash on the brakes to keep it from moving, anything else i could do?
oh yea this is a d15b7 block and the crank pulley is a little different then the z6 one
thanks for the replies

5th gear, brakes, deep socket 17mm(no extensions) and a piece of tubing. The extensions allow twisting too much otherwise if you do have to use extensions put a floor jack underneath keep to it straight if your gonna use alot of them. Never really had a problem with them though and I don't use air tools ever since I don't own a compressor. Elbow grease works and alot of swearing does wonders!

i'd imagine some cans of pb blaster, shop solve, and wd-40 should be emptied on it lol
the one on my y8 block doesn't even need a deep socket to reach it, just the shorty one. so use the short one if you can, you get better leverage. unfortunately im going to have to do this aswell come spring for the exact reason your doing it. new timing belt with mini-me swap.
lillowek used a strap wrench to keep it in place.

maybe give that a try
best of luck and let us know what works for ya

Keep the compressor and get yourself a 3/4" impact gun...They use them on Diesels and locamotives and big ****...They put out something like 1500 ft/lbs of torque or something crazy like that....
Theyre kinda pricey so your better off renting one from a tool place or something...That or find a diesel tech and rent it from him

how do i NOT use an extension??? just use a deep 17 ? but if i did that i wouldnt have much leverage since my car is on jack stands, should i raise the car up more or what should i do?

if you use an extention
use a jack to support the extention to make it straight
so you can use all your weight pushing down instead of holding it and pushing it down

use jack stands lay on the ground and stomp on it. or you can do it from the engine bay if there is enough room (yank on it)

thanks everyone for your help , I finaly was able to get it off. this is what i did:
- removed starter and put a large screwdriver in the flywheel teeth
- used the breaker bar without and extension
- sprayed pb blaster
that seemed to do the trick, thanks again for the help
Here is an update of my mini-me:

decided to take out my ac aswell:
